That guy was about to commit a hate crime by stabbing someone right in the middle of the street, I get that it's a traumatic situation but he should have definitely been arrested.

The man that was being attacked told Cap to let him go.

That doesn't matter, though, you don't need the victim's permission to charge someone with attempted murder.

The whole scene is insanely dumb. That dude is a racist who was going to stab a random guy to death in the middle of the street and everyone's all like, hey take it easy on him, you're better than this, save your anger for the enemy - like, what the fuck, just arrest this man.

Cap's ability to actually arrest people is inconsistent at best, as is his status as an actual member of any law enforcement organization. Especially since the first scans here involve him telling SHIELD to fuck off. It's entirely possible that he's essentially a vigilante here, and thus not actually obligated to arrest anyone. That said, I agree that letting the guy go may not be the best call.

No, you're right. I would have told Cap to let him go as well though, but only because I'd want a piece of anyone trying to stab me.

Ever since Captain America: The First Avenger, I can't take the old-style costume seriously anymore. I just keep thinking about how ludicrous it would look in real life.

Do you remember how bad his costume looked in the Avengers? Thank God they improved on it the last 2 films.

I dunno, I think it was at least better than Infinity War's "I have pried off the star and painted my suit black because I'm sad bearded Steve now" look. And if Avengers 4 set photos are to be believed, a certain brighter suit that you expressed distaste for is making some sort of comeback.

Well, isn't he supposed to be Nomad in Infinity/Avengers 4? Maybe that's the reason behind the costume change?

Maybe, but there is precedent for MCU Steve being rather petty about his suit. See how in the Lagos and Bucharest scenes of Civil War he has Avengers logos on his shoulders, but he takes the time to remove those logos from the suit before the confrontation at the airport.

I am kinda heartbroken we don't get to see the Nomad outfit slit down to the navel with the cape onscreen.

I assume, but have no confirmation, the original Avengers suit will be used in a flashback?

The photos have Steve in the old suit standing next to Tony wearing a SHIELD uniform he never wore, so I'm thinking time and/or reality stone shenanigans are involved.

For some people (*raises hand*) that's a selling point.

Honestly, I prefer superhero costumes to be a little cartoonish.

I think the textured look wouldn't look bad irl. Steve McNiven's looks pretty cool.

I know what you mean. The costume in the movie is outstanding, combining functionality and patriotism in a perfect package. I am not a fan of the Avengers era uniform but I get how it was designed by a fanboy like Coulson. the Winter Soldier one goes too far in the opposite direction but I get the feeling that was intentional as Cap abandons it for the third act and returns to his roots. The Age of Ultron costume is an excellent modern incarnation and I wish they would adapt it for the comics, maybe simplifying it a bit.

But anyway, yeah, I'm on the same page and this is one retcon I wish they'd make happen.

I loved the Comander Rogers uniform he had in Winter Soldier. Wish he would have stuck with it, but I get why he didn't.

TV Tropes says, regarding Age of Ultron:

Steve spends the entire final battle fighting without his helmet, and the scene explaining it got cut from the actual release: on landing in Sokovia, he immediately sees graffiti of his classic look with "fascist" sprayed over it.

This is well meaning and all but... No, sorry, real life doesn't work like that (and don't give me any bull about this being just a comic book, it's blatantly commenting on a real life issue). Kay, so the guy is traumatized-get him some help, don't just go bygones be bygones and let him go, figuring he'll be okay and won't go around stabbing brown people. This really isn't a "we all make mistakes" kind of thing dude.
