WAIT! Won't their no-selling just cancel each other out?!

How completely and utterly disinteresting.

Deathstroke already faced off against Batman near the start of his current series. Why do it again so soon?

Because the internet is agog with the suggestion that Deathstroke can beat Batman in a stand up fight, and there is a certain segment of the fandom that simply cannot abide this, and needs the matter definitively settled.

As such, it would not surprise me if this were just a series setting up Batman showing Slade who is boss. It would surprise me even less if they left the resolution vague in order to sustain interest.

Well they never actually had it out in that guest appearance, only scuffling briefly, so from a certain perspective the cachet of Deathstroke vs Batman is still there.

The showdown between Batman and the guy who's notable for being beaten by 3/5 Robins and 2/3 Batgirls (Did Stephane ever fight Deathstroke?). It would be amazing if Batman lost and still pretty good given the creative team.

Is it bad that all of my favorite Deathstroke moments are the ones where he's pretty soundly beaten? Like the time Green Arrow had Star City tricked out to be weaponized against him? Or the time Dinah nearly put out his other eye?

Not bad at all. The prick deserves every bad thing that happens to him.

Good, good. I admit, some of my feelings on him are backlash from when DC decided to promote him from "can be a serviceable for for the Titans and tangle with Dick Grayson" to "master planner who hangs out with big names like Lex Luthor and can beat the entire Justice league."

The entire Justice League thing was ridiculous (especially in the manner with which it was presented), I agree, but Slade was more than "serviceable" for the Titans, and more to the point the Titans team that he originally tangled with was quite powerful and competent in their own right. If anything, his late 90's/00's portrayal as little more than a high-priced thug was more out of character than the idea that he could fit in on a group with Lex Luthor. Quite frankly, Dick Grayson should never beat Deathstroke in a straight/fair fight, and out-thinking him should be no easy task.

You may not care for the character, but Deathstroke is a "big name" among DC villains, and has been for quite a while.

I don't completely agree with your assessment, but I'll cop to probably downplaying Slade's threat level.

I admit, I'm something of a fan of villains "staying in their lane." Norman Osborn or Doc Ock being good examples. I'm fine with them as foes of Peter, not necessarily so much of them being people who can match wits with the Avengers or FF or what not. I get the need to make villains effective, but I think their (in general, not just those specific examples) threat profile gets inflated unnecessarily. There's nothing wrong, in my mind, with a villain only being effective against a particular subset of heroes.

Batman has lost to Deathstroke several times already...why is this still a thing? Slade is essentially Batman on steriods, with zero morals, so the outcome is pretty obvious to me.

Really looking forward to this, especially since Priest approaches both characters as these supreme tacticians. Don't see Slade winning, as that would be odd, but it will be interesting to see everything they throw at each other.

Wasn't Deathstroke's thing originally that he avoided fights with guys like Batman?
