After reading comics for so many years, nothing much shocks me anymore, but Britain's space program funded by Holocaust gold? *shivers down my spine*

The last panel show much hasn't changed indeed in the British Empire.

Warren Ellis is great at that mixture of idealism and cynicism, where great things are achieved at disturbing costs.

"Churchill knew. No stranger to the notion of concentration camps he."

A simple sentence, about something our real history likes to forget, but a reminder about the 'heroes' of history.

can a long time lurker, first time poster chime in here?
This ending has always puzzled me because, from what I understand, England never had a racial segregation policy like what Ellis is implying. There was, as far as I can discover, never any official racial segregation policies or laws (like in the USA or South Africa), or laws outlawing interracial marriage, or denying the vote on the basis of race. So this whole ending just seems weird to me.

I enjoyed the alternate history, the social commentary and the retro British designs... but that ending sure fell flat for me. I guess they had to choose between global (and beyond) domination or equal rights?

I wish they had a couple more issues to work with.

Man, can you imagine if the American space program had done something similar, like using the contributions of recruited Nazi rocket scientists? That would be crazy.

The Brits bombing the Americans so they won't get a leg up into space, sure. The Brits using the Nazi gold to fund it since they were broke, makes sense in a cold blooded way. (I do wonder if they paid back their loans to the Americans at a faster rate though)

The Mars colonies, the lunar city, the multiple space stations with apparent artificial gravity? Seems a little much.
