We have a longer look at Miles Morales in the Christmas release

Oh, I think I'm going to like this... Mile's dad alone is worth the price! :)

Does Gwen's costume include ballet slippers?

Some of this has a "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" vibe. And not in a bad way.

No Ganke?

I hope we get a Ganke who is clearly just Ned Leeds with a different name.

I have an idea what happened with that.

There were reports that there was going to be a white character based off Ganke and people understandably got pissed for whitewashing.

I know the writer later said on Twitter "The character ISN'T Ganke" but I imagine they pretty much knew that the similarities with the character were pretty blatant so to save face they just said "Ok cast an Asian actor for the role" just to prevent any controversy.

Thing is if they had just made the character Harry Osborn and made a few changes I doubt the Ganke similarity would have been an issue given how the Spectacular cartoon had Harry as being Peter's geeky friend.

The writer may have denied it but "Spider-Man's chubby comic-relief roommate who loves legos" certainly sounds more like Ganke than Ned.

It is funny that you mention the Spectacular cartoon, it's my favorite non-comics Spidey and they made a lot of characters tweaks while still ensuring that they mostly stayed recognizable (except for Sally, no idea what they were thinking there). In a effort to be more diverse Liz became Latina though she seems to come of as her comic counterpart otherwise. Ned Leeds dropped a couple letters and became the Asian Ned Lee.

Ah, well. Spider-Man movie casting has always been all over the place. The characters are almost always better or worse than the comics.

...except for JK Simmons as JJJ. He is perfect and I won't hear a bad word said about him.

Cautiously optimistic. They'd better not try to shoehorn all the spider people into this world. Miles' story needs room to breath.

Yeah... I fear because of the MCU, EVERY studio is going to try to copy what they did... in half the time and budget....

.... I want May Parker! She SO deserves to have her story told.

The child of Peter Parker, his ultimate responsibility, taking on his web-shooters and carrying the weight that his career as Spider-Man has brought on their lives. It can be the ultimate story of legacy!

I am still mad at how the Ultimate Spider-Man show just gave us gender-bender universe Peter....

That was so bizarre.

This looks very cool.

While the Spider-Verse concept still leaves me really quite cold, I have to admit that this looks does look really enjoyable. I guess I can accept that while the overriding direction of Spider-Man these days just isn't the one I most like, it's not inherently bad.

I like goofball mentor Peter Parker, certainly moreso than the MCU's underwhelmingly off base wide eyed team kid. From the quick glimpse, I wonder if Spider-Gwen is going to end up falling into the role of the Generic Cool Girl, which would be a little unfortunate.

I'm curious what sort of balance this movie will strike between the Spider-Verse stuff and the Miles stuff. The bits with Miles' dad were charming and I was excited to get a glimpse of the Prowler (even if he's sadly unlikely to be Miles dirtbag pseudo-mentor), so I'm hoping that stuff doesn't get completely left behind in favor of some cosmic fetch quest centering around fucking Morlun.

I adore this art style. It's colorful, dynamic and just brimming with life all around, perfectly suited for a Spider-Man story. The character interactions are also very entertaining. I'll be looking forward to this.
