Six solicitations, with commentary.

Pencils & Cover by STUART IMMONEN
Aw, it’s been a long long time since Spider-Man and Spider-Woman had some alone time. Some nice quality time. Too bad this isn't that time. We'd tell you who they are fighting here but it'll spoil some big goings on in the issues you haven't read yet. From the dashing duo of Brian Bendis and Stuart Immonen!

Spidey's never really had much to do with any of the ladies who spun off from his name (in what was probably a deliberate choice), so I'd be interested to see the two of them as a team.

Continue to like Immonen's work on the series.

Variant Cover by GERALD PAREL
Project Rebirth begins! As 98 pound weakling Steve Rogers finally enters the picture, Nazi spies move in the shadows onto US soil...and the Angel comes close to finding the man who's murdering masked heroes.

The first issue managed to cover what felt like mostly new ground; one hopes they'll not spend too much time rehashing Steve's by now very familiar story (or, at least, show some new parts of it; I really liked the brief scene in Reborn #2 that had Steve talking with Dr. Erskine, almost as a father figure. You could do something with that).

Written by BRIAN REED
The War of The Marvels is over, but before Carol Danvers can deal with it’s aftermath, she must brace herself as she faces down the biggest mistake she made before her apparent death...promising Spider-Man she’d go out with him. Brian Reed teams with Mark Robinson (SKRULL KILL KREW) to bring you THE AMAZING SPIDER-DATE!

Heh. Kind of a generic cover, though; given the premise of the issue, you'd think you could do something more inventive.

Adventures on Nu Earth! Ben and Johnny have big plans for a much needed vacation in the company of refugees from the future - booze, ladies, misadventures...and two stowaways named Franklin and Val.

I have to admit, the solicits for Hickman's stuff do sound good. Amusing Davis cover (he's kind of fallen into a bit of a rut as a light comedy artist, I have to say).

Cover by DAVID AJA
He is the oldest, most skilled and most venerated of the Immortal Weapons -- veteran of multiple Tournaments of the Seven Heavenly Cities -- the fabled and feared warrior nicknamed the Green Mist of Death by few who saw him and lived -- and an unending mystery even to those who cultivate mystery. But as Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist, soon learned, the forbidding Prince of Orphans was no more than an Earth-born man, John Aman, given great power and trained for ages countless. Yet questions remain...what is Aman's mission on Earth? What is the nature of his incredible power? And is there anyone who can defeat his kung fu? When Iron Fist joins Aman on a life-or-death mission to fight monsters and banish ghosts, Danny may learn the answers to these questions...if he survives!

The first issue of this was great; given the rotating creative teams, it's hard to judge the quality of the later issues, but Lapham's a very respectable talent to finish it out. Aja's covers for this series have been excellent.

Penciled by SEAN CHEN
The epic conclusion! The MIGHTY AVENGERS and members of the NEW AVENGERS, YOUNG AVENGERS and the AVENGERS RESISTANCE assemble against the incalculable might of THE UNSPOKEN! Plus QUICKSILVER is reunited with the INHUMANS... now what will they do with him? All this and the strange secret of the Infinite Avengers Mansion stands revealed! This one's got it all!

Awesome cover.

The guy with the wings is, I think, a rather oddly-rendered Hulkling. Who's the guy behind Cassie?

Wasn't she dating Wonder Man at some point? Whatever happened to that? It just fizzled out. And Carol and Peter are the last two people I expected to hook up. They come from very different places.

Now Peter/Karla is different. She would totally be into that. The way he's being currently written, he probably would be too.

That's actually what I like about the idea. They're very different people.

They still need to have SOME common ground, and I simply don't see any.

They're both super-heroes. Having a common vocation isn't enough for you?
Workplace romance and all ...

Having a common vocation isn't enough for you?

No, it's not, and I'm stunned that you think that it is, unless you've wanted to have sex with and/or be in relationships with every single person who's ever been a coworker of yours at your jobs.

Basically, all I see for justifications are either OPPOSITES ATTRACT or THEY'RE ALREADY TEAMMATES, both of which betray the sort of trite, interchangeable, sitcom-level writing that makes people think it's okay to hook up T'Challa and Ororo solely because THEY'RE BOTH BLACK AMIRITE???

By this same logic, Green Arrow and Hawkman should have been the best of friends, because they were both white guys and also both members of the same team.

There's a pretty gigantic difference between workplace romance and putting two people together because they're the same race.

Yes, one is explicitly racist, while another is obviously not, but reasons go, they're both equally shallow and uninteresting.

Not really, I mean, a workplace romance can easily exist because of the close quaters and the familarity. With Super heroes, it may be even bigger becasue with that, you have fights for your life and denfending each other's backs. It all comes down to writing, I think a workplace romance is a lot easier and more interesting to find a good story for than just shoving two characters of a race together for the sake of romance.

Not really, I mean, a workplace romance can easily exist because of the close quaters and the familarity.

Except that familiarity also breeds contempt, depending upon the people in question, and the point I'm getting at is that there is absolutely no reason, given Peter and Carol's personalities, why this shouldn't breed contempt rather than affection.

With Super heroes, it may be even bigger becasue with that, you have fights for your life and denfending each other's backs.

Are you talking about a relationship, or are you talking about just fucking?

Because as a former member of the military who's served in two foreign wars alongside both male and female service members, I'll freely grant you that, in between performing operational duties on behalf of your nation's war efforts, there's gonna be a LOT of fucking amongst the ranks, even though it's against the rules, but relationships? No, not so much. It's sex as STRESS-RELIEF, nothing more.

Well, I grant comics so romantic leeway, as a hopless romantic and since it's fantasy.

I dom't know I guess now that Peter is single, (for better or worse) I wanna see him have some new relationships, maybe become romantically involved in a meaningful way with someone otehr than MJ, Id like a change of pace like that.

Except that, as I said upthread, it's never going to happen "in a meaningful way," since Tom Brevoort's "Spider-Man Manifesto" dictated that Peter should NEVER have a successful long-term love affair, because he's a "loser" who should always be "young."

I never read that so I couldn't really comment, but I'm sure it'll happen.

Against the wishes of the people who are currently in charge of the books, yes.

I don't know what to say to someone who equates "workplace romance" with this. Really, you've outdone yourself BIB.

In the absence of any other excuses for hooking two characters up, both are cliched and overdone reasons for getting characters together.

Although I'm starting to suspect that you don't really care, because this is the third time you've stepped into a conversation that you weren't part of, to try and tell me how stupid I am, which makes me suspect this is less about you having differences of opinion with me, and more about you having developed some kind of personal grudge against me, so in the interests of not starting drama on this comm, I won't be replying to your posts again.
