Presumably after the fun and games of "X-Men: Disassembled" is over and done with it's time for an event!

And for that we need a dynamic, exciting, hot mutant property to build the event around.

Sadly, since Doug Ramsey is busy over in Daredevil right now, we're getting an event focussing on the one (Well, there's sort of two of him), the only (not counting alternate universes and 'What if..?'s')...

Nathaniel "Nate" Grey started as a character introduced in the "Age of Apocalypse" storyline back in 1995 (Oh crap, that makes it 23 years old now!!). He is, to cut a long, long looooooong story short, an alternate future offspring of Jean Grey and Cyclops (Weirdly, I think he's the only one who actually IS their purely biological kid, since Cable is the son of Cyclops and Maddy Pryor (Who was a clone of Jean, but NOT Jean herself) and Rachel is, according to Claremont, the child of Jean and the Phoenix Force itself, with no physical involvement with Scott involved).

He is an exceptionally powerful psionic, he survived his timeline's destruction and came back to the present 616, where he spent some time in a weirdly uncomfortable relationship with Madelyne Pryor who he'd naively brought back from the dead because he missed his mother, and as a "Shaman of the Mutant Tribe", tied into the life force of the Earth (or something) and I think dissolved to make the world a better place (or something... I MIGHT be getting confused with the Joseph the Magento clone).

Most recently he showed up in the pages of New Mutants (Which was also over 6 years ago now) where he developed a tendency to not wear shirts and his powers were significantly cut down for plot convenience so he ended up focussing his TK through crossing his fingers in front of him like cross-hairs to project TK pulses.

And believe me, that was the short version. You can find out all about him here if you like, but be careful, Summer family bios tend to read like Choose-Your-Own-Adventure books... printed on a Moebius strip.... in a fractal font.

Very little is known about the event itself, but it will involve six, five-issue, limited series, with wildly different casts, but we don't really know what any of it means right now.

Apocalypse and the XTracts

Written by Tim Seeley with art by Salva Espin.

This appears to be Genesis, Dazzler, Apocalypse, Eye-Boy and... I have no idea who psychedelic lady or the straight-haired brunette are.

The XTremists

Written by Leah Williams and art by Georges Jeanty.

Jubilee, Psylocke, Iceman, Northstar, Blob, and a new character named Moneta

Written by Ed Brisson with art by Marcus To.

Deep breath; Rockslide, Blindfold, Goldenball, Glob Hermann, Anole, Shark-Girl, Maggott, Pixie, random chickens and several I probably should know, but don't.

Mostly I'd be into this one for the Marcus To art.

The Marvellous X-Men

Written by Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson with art by Marco Failla

So we have Santa/Magneto, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Laura Kinney (I won't call her X-23), Nature Girl, X-Man (FINALLY he shows up in one of these covers) and Marvel Girl/Jean Grey. I

Prisoner X

Written by Vita Ayala and art by German Peralta

Bishop, Beast and Polaris seem obvious but the other two? Squirrel Girl? Honey Badger? Dani Moonstar? I think Gambit is supposed to feature in this too but he isn't on this cover.

Written by Seanan McGuire with art by Juan Frigeri

You know I'm a sucker for Nightcrawler, so I hope this serves him well.

I'm tempted to ask for pitches as to what you think the plot might be, and we can score it against the reality!

Okay. from looking at this. this is another changed reality. From the covers, I believe that instead of... say... Mutants rule the world. the difference is that the entire hero community is gone and replaced with the mutants, who in this reality are considered heroes.

I suspect Bishop is aware of the changed realities and got send to prison because he tried to fix things.

"The amazing Nightcrawler" is Nightcrawler acting like Spider-man.

"Marvelous" is this worlds version of "The avengers" or "the fantastic four".

"X-Tremists" is a book whose content will ultimately be less relevant than the controversy that will have the name they chose.

"Nextgen" is obviously about the X-academy in this world.

"Apocalypse" I want to just be Apocalypse as a hippie and having nothign to do with the main plot.

"X-Tremists" could take the place of SHIELD in this world.

"Nextgen" could also be about this world's equivalent to the Young Avengers or Champions.

"Apocalypse" could be a team of weirdos and outcasts without the oppressed minority metaphor, like the Doom Patrol or the pre-Claremont X-Men.

"Prisoner-X" could also be about this world's criminals and villains.

The lady with front-braid in the Prisoner cover sort of looks like Trinary to me.

These all look just nuts enough that I am cautiously excited/interested.

Even though I honestly have no idea who some of the writers are. Vita Ayala? Lonnie Nadler? All I know is I don't dislike any of them.

I saw where they're giving Uncanny over to Matt Rosenberg, and that just makes me sad.

I'm not sure on actual plot, but I'm going to call the general approach as being "let's throw a bunch of crazy books at the wall and see what sticks." Which I can dig. X-Men in prispn? Seems like a safe bet. Put Blob in a team? Why not. Have Apocalypse lead a groovy team of psychedelic mutants including his own clone? You better believe it!

Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for Blob to become an X-Man. We're approaching the point where every X-character was at one point part of the team.

Back when they announced X-Men Red, I made a joke that they could field a team entirely of villains who have joined the X-Men over the years. Magneto, Sabretooth, Mystique, Emma Frost, Juggernaut, Lady Mastermind, Frenzy, Rogue... and they could call it X-Men Black.

When, not long after, they indeed announced X-Men Black and said it would star Mystique, Emma Frost, Magneto, Mojo, and Juggernaut, with an Apocalypse backup story, I laughed myself sick.

The X-Men really have a great track record for at least temporarily converting their foes. And a poor track record for -keeping- many of them. :)

Weapon X-Force is no slouch on the villain switch department either. Sabretooth, Deathstrike, Mystique, Omega Red, Domino as the token not-originally-bad-guy, Warpath and Old Man Logan (guess he didn't really start as a villain either, but he and Warpath seem to have dropped off anyway. Not sure if OML is even alive anymore, haven't really followed his own comic.).

They should just put "PR Disaster" in front of their uniforms and call it a day.

Tim Seeley's been posting things on twitter, apparently Apocalypse and the X-Tracts is about a leftist militant group. Brown Haired Lady is "Kitty Pryde as Patty Hearst", and psychedelic lady seems to be a new character.
