And so this series comes to an end, and I realize that I don't care about any of these people and the narrative has given me no reason to do so. And then it gets worse in later volumes.

Yes, I've read them.

I read the second volume first, then went back to read the first volume to see whether it improved without the maudlin Kennedy nostalgia of the second. I found that it hadn't measurably.

The series is crap. The writing is crap. The art is crap.

I enjoy this comic alot (like, so much) but yes the Kennedy line is sentimental, however, I'm not that convinced the story/author supports that line, rather than it just being Spaceboy's (shortsighted + hamfisted) point-of-view.

It's the fact that he gets the last word (as far as the family talking to each other goes) and it's weaponised as judgement towards the rest of the cast that creates the air of sentimentality... as if that's supposed to be our take away from this. For me, it's just a character's opinion, but it certainly made me squint because it's ultimately unreasonable to the situation.

And yes, one line can make or break a book. Words have meanings and effects, especially in written narratives. That's a good thing. Hell, his line about Kennedy caused a lasting change in behaviour for the Rumour in the latest issues, so I wouldn't downplay it.

Hotel Oblivion is going so so well.

You do realize the mini ended with Kennedy assassinated and the only noticeable change is that the world didn't explode.

I more or less ignored these posts until today, when I was bored and thought "Ehhh, what can it hurt, let's take a look?"

Holy crap.

As in "This is the craziest shit I've read in years".

But at the same time I'm intrigued. :)

Incidentally, I'm watching the Netflix series now and am oddly pleased to see it's just as wonderfully cracky as the comic. I never thought a gunfight done to TMBG's "Istanbul (Not Constantinople) could be perfect. :)

And thus the entire female cast was inflicted with permanently disabling injuries and depowered. Bleahhhhhhh.

Thanks for taking the time to post all of these! I really enjoyed Umbrella Academy when it came out and it was nice to see all of these scans again -- don't let all of the negative comments discourage you from posting more.

I'll have to dig these up from the longboxes. I don't remember the Dallas arc at all, but I'm pretty sure I read and enjoyed it. I'm eager to see the Netflix series. Unlike some folks, I enjoyed this series for the Gonzo nature of it. I guess I'm surprised how some folks seem to hate it, rather than just not enjoy it, but tastes vary.

I quite liked the Apocalypse Suite, though I never got around to reading Dallas. The deliberate gaps in Umbrella Academy can be a bit frustrating at times, especially given that it's far from being an ongoing series, but I do like it overall. I just wish there were more of it. I expect the Netflix show will scratch that itch and fill in some of the gaps.

Correct, it's about halfway through at this point. I haven't been following it because I'm not doing single issues anymore, but I'm kind of surprised how little I've heard about it, especially given the Netflix show coming up in a matter of weeks.
