Uh-oh

Yep, cardinal error of parenting there. Never lay down a law that the child is determined to disobey. He laid down the law, she disobeyed and called his bluff, now he has nowhere else to go on this. A parent can only really parent, especially when parenting a teen, if they either inspire utter fear or willing obedience. He can't deliver on the fear part, and he's given a command she is not willing to obey. It is going to be a difficult place for her and her family to come back from.

That's a case of "screwed if you do, screwed if you don't" though. I mean, what was the alternative? Just accept that his underaged daughter is going to get herself killed? A compromise can only work so far when she still insists on putting herself in the line of fire.

Mind you, I think she too has a point. She has those powers that can save lives, how can she just do nothing?

But putting his foot down and pray it works is pretty much all he can do.

Most parents of girls Kamala's age have a certain degree of power: if she were driving to a fight club or something, they could suspend access to the car. That's not really an option here. There's not much they could do to affect her crimefighting career without effectively putting her in even more danger than she already is, and they are too honest with themselves not to know that.

But pretending they're cool with it wouldn't be an option either. Kamala's deference to her parents is stronger than that of a lot of her friends who don't share her faith, and they rolled the dice that it'd be strong enough in this case. It wasn't... though events later in this same issue may have made that a moot point.

I mean you can't really argue with her dad on this seeing as she just got brought back from the dead.

Also it just hit me that poor clueless Aamir is the only member of the immediate family (and one of the few series regulars) that doesn't know about his sister's double life even though he has more evidence than most. That seems very on-brand for him.

I do like that he actually behaves like a parents. "Yes, it's admirable you want to be a hero, but damn it, it's my job to protect 'you'."

Yea I did like that. The whole "we aren't mad at you for doing this - but we are worried and you should have time to grow up." Was nice.

Odds that the father has just found out he has Plot Cancer?

I'd say 4 to 3.

yeeeeeeeaaaa I was getting that sinking feeling

To be fair, they've both got a point.

Can we get the Reyes family over from the pre-Flashpoint DCU to help the Khans come to terms with their new reality?

CAN WE JUST HAVE THE REYES FAMILY?

CAN WE JUST HAVE THE PRE-FLASHPOINT BLUE BEETLE EVERYTHING?

...asking for a friend.

Thanks for asking on my behalf.

The Rebirth Blue Beetle was pretty decent.

I like the idea of Ted as Jamie's mentor. Otherwise I'd rather have the pre-Flashpoint continuityl

Of course that's true for most of modern DC; keep the one or two recent good ideas (almost all of which came from Rebirth or DCYou) and ditch all the other garbage from the NU52 onward.
