Really enjoyed the trailer, the increasing build during it and majority of the team heading out. Although Carol's sudden inclusion to the story feels as deus ex machina as possible.

Something that I'm trying to figure out at the moment is that what is the group opposing the Avengers here? We watched all of Thanos's lieutenant's die in the previous film and I don't know if I'm excited for watching some faceless goons being slaughtered.

Given that they were hinting at her as early as the Infinity War stinger her inclusion is about as "sudden" as that of Wanda during Age of Ultron.

Introducing her at the last minute of the first half of the big ‘finale’ is pretty sudden.

I hope the Russo brothers are smart enough not to have her save the day because that would suck.

Great job there Cyber. The world finally has its first leading female character in the MCU film franchise that took ten years and twenty-one movies to finally get to, and now you’re hoping she doesn’t do anything important like saving the day.

Except I never said I don't want her to do anything important, so now you're just putting words in my mouth.

What I said was I don't want a last-minute character to function as a deus ex machina to a conclusion of a storyline that's been building up over a decade.

And Marvel has only themselves to blame for taking this long to introduce her when she could have easily appeared at some point after GotG.

Well what's the point if she's going to become a part of the film if she's not going to help save the day? You want her to be a cheerleader? Damsel in distress? Love interest? Bland action girl who gets goggled at? You don't want her to save the day, well, what's the point of having her?

You’re doing a lot of inferring here. I just don’t want her to be the one to defeat Thanos. It would be cheap and anticlimactic. I don’t care what else she does.

I don't think that's what [personal profile] cyberghostface is saying. I think he means he just doesn't want Captain Marvel to be the one to take down Thanos because she's too new and would hopefully be more akin to characters like, say, Vision and the Maximoffs, or Ant-Man and Spider-Man, or Hawkeye (where they were essential to the team but never detracted or overshadowed them).

I have faith in the Russos but I've also geared myself to expect the worst.

I can go into specific spoilers but if you want to know where I'm coming from Stephen King was in a similar situation with 'The Dark Tower' which was in effect the grand culmination of all of his work at the time and he shit the bed in such a spectacular fashion that I'm always wary when it comes to conclusions...

King did away with a number of interesting plotlines and characters in bizarrely anticlimactic ways in the last book.

Imagine how you'd feel if in the first ten minutes of Endgame The Hood appears and kills Thanos and then for the rest of the film the Avengers fight him and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.

To me, Captain Marvel's situation is pretty similar to Dr. Strange's. Both characters are super powerful and would be super useful for defeating thanos, but they both are very fresh to the mcu. In a perfect world, they both would have gotten 2 movies to shine (or at least 1 full movie and a very significant cameo, i felt like stranges presence in thor 3 was relatively minor and kind of forced), but it makes sense that the creators can make a huge interconnected franchise like this flow only so smoothly. So yeah, both she and strange feel a bit abrupt with their appearances in the last movie and this upcoming one, but i have a feeling the filmmakers won't have either of them individually laying a smack down on thanos and single-handedly save the day. I think carol will play an important role in his defeat given her power level, and then things will feel a little more natural with her as she gets her other 2 headlining movies and plays a big role in future avengers film.

That is a bit sudden when you consider her existence was only revealed in the very last shot of the film, whereas Thanos has been built up as the big behind-the-scenes villain for nearly six years now. I hope that'll be more like Vision in Age of Ultron or Ant-Man and Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War, in that her presence enhances the team but doesn't overshadow them.

Yeah that's more or less how I feel. It would be very anticlimactic if she's a deus ex machina. If it's not Cap or Iron Man then it should either be Thor or Nebula to have the final confrontation given they probably have the biggest beef with him.

Dusting a guy who you knew for a week is not the same as being an abusive father replacing bits of your body with cybernetics and then tossing your sister off a cliff or slowly strangling your brother to death in front of you.

I don't think the defeat of Thanos will all boil down to who's got the biggest beef with him. Yeah, Nebula has the biggest, but if you had to pick between Captain Marvel or her, are you 'really' going to pick the one who is the most angriest with him?

Seeing Rocket in the trailer reminds me of how everyone was saying he the death knell of the MCU... (and how Disney betrayed the person who made it work.)

I hope Thanos still has a central role; he hasn’t showed up in any of the promos aside from a glance of his hand.

It's more likely he'll get dusted. The original actors' contracts are up, and there is a younger, female Hawkeye in the comics.

So you think that the scenes where he’s Ronin and crying in Black Widiw’s arms are flashbacks?

Hmm. I'm working on the theory that everyone who's dusted is going to be restored, so I would guess that if they want to replace Renner (are we sure his contract's up? He wasn't in Civil War, right, so that puts him a bit behind most of them in terms of film appearances?) then it won't be by his getting dusted, but in actual combat with Thanos or his minions.

ETA: I've had a long day. It was Infinity War, not Civil War, that he didn't appear in.

Plus, let's face it - Chris Evans is doing an /amazing/ job as Cap, but the amount of physical training he needs to keep up to maintain that Super Soldier physique has got to be taxing as hell and he's been at it for how long now?

I think the only person with a longer MCU run at this point is Robert Downey Jr, and he doesn't have nearly the same degree of physical requirements.

So yeah, smart money is on Endgame either being the finale to the MCU as a whole (fat chance, with a cash cow like it's been so far), or a big passing-the-torch event to make room for a new generation of actors.
