Given that they were hinting at her as early as the Infinity War stinger her inclusion is about as "sudden" as that of Wanda during Age of Ultron.

Introducing her at the last minute of the first half of the big ‘finale’ is pretty sudden.

I hope the Russo brothers are smart enough not to have her save the day because that would suck.

Great job there Cyber. The world finally has its first leading female character in the MCU film franchise that took ten years and twenty-one movies to finally get to, and now you’re hoping she doesn’t do anything important like saving the day.

Except I never said I don't want her to do anything important, so now you're just putting words in my mouth.

What I said was I don't want a last-minute character to function as a deus ex machina to a conclusion of a storyline that's been building up over a decade.

And Marvel has only themselves to blame for taking this long to introduce her when she could have easily appeared at some point after GotG.

Well what's the point if she's going to become a part of the film if she's not going to help save the day? You want her to be a cheerleader? Damsel in distress? Love interest? Bland action girl who gets goggled at? You don't want her to save the day, well, what's the point of having her?

You’re doing a lot of inferring here. I just don’t want her to be the one to defeat Thanos. It would be cheap and anticlimactic. I don’t care what else she does.

I don't think that's what [personal profile] cyberghostface is saying. I think he means he just doesn't want Captain Marvel to be the one to take down Thanos because she's too new and would hopefully be more akin to characters like, say, Vision and the Maximoffs, or Ant-Man and Spider-Man, or Hawkeye (where they were essential to the team but never detracted or overshadowed them).

how little faith do you have that your first thought is "I hope they are not going to just have her save the day"?

I have faith in the Russos but I've also geared myself to expect the worst.

I can go into specific spoilers but if you want to know where I'm coming from Stephen King was in a similar situation with 'The Dark Tower' which was in effect the grand culmination of all of his work at the time and he shit the bed in such a spectacular fashion that I'm always wary when it comes to conclusions...

GOD, did King shit the bed for "The Dark Tower." I'm a huge fan of his, but ending an epic like that? No thank you, sir.

What was wrong with The Dark Tower, might I ask? I've never read the books, sorry.

King did away with a number of interesting plotlines and characters in bizarrely anticlimactic ways in the last book.

Imagine how you'd feel if in the first ten minutes of Endgame The Hood appears and kills Thanos and then for the rest of the film the Avengers fight him and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about.

And Captain America dies saving the Russo brothers’ lives from a car accident. And The Hood is defeated by one of the little kids from Thor Ragnarok

To me, Captain Marvel's situation is pretty similar to Dr. Strange's. Both characters are super powerful and would be super useful for defeating thanos, but they both are very fresh to the mcu. In a perfect world, they both would have gotten 2 movies to shine (or at least 1 full movie and a very significant cameo, i felt like stranges presence in thor 3 was relatively minor and kind of forced), but it makes sense that the creators can make a huge interconnected franchise like this flow only so smoothly. So yeah, both she and strange feel a bit abrupt with their appearances in the last movie and this upcoming one, but i have a feeling the filmmakers won't have either of them individually laying a smack down on thanos and single-handedly save the day. I think carol will play an important role in his defeat given her power level, and then things will feel a little more natural with her as she gets her other 2 headlining movies and plays a big role in future avengers film.
