This arc has been so confusing...interrupting it for the Flash crossover didn't help, but it's been too dreamlike, and doesn't really hang together, though it would probably work as a GN where you can get the whole story in one sitting, not over the course of 4 or so months.

I swear, if at the end of this arc he pops out of a simulation chamber and we find out it's just something he puts himself through every ye-

Oh wait, that was the Detective arc.

That arc was pretty straightforward, until the whole bit at STAR (and even then, the conversation with himself worked for what it was). (On the other hand, I did read that one all in one sitting, since I prioritized getting caught up on Detective...and it was actually finished.)

This is just ill-paced...the last issue would have been a perfect one-shot set in reality, and doesn't seem to build the Knightmares arc...but there it is sitting, incomprehensible, of the middle of an arc that's already progressing slower than it should both because of the actual pacing of the story (perhaps Bruce could start having a different epiphany in each story, maybe? Just to move things along?) and because an unrelated arc was thrown in the middle.

Is the Question's story about the flag and the wind supposed to mean something?

The flag represents the readers, and the wind is Tom King blowing us around at his mercy in an epic 100-issue long trolling. :)

Seriously, this arc feels like such a waste of time if you came looking for, y'know, actual Batman stories. :(

I have such mixed feelings about this arc. I really love well done character analysis of Batman and can easily see how this would work with very slight changes. However, it also feels like it is dragging along forever and King has made Batman so ineffectual that I don't even really get the point of this.

Writing this, I guess this would actually come across a lot better if it was a breather, a slowing down after a series of fast paced events, but everything before this was just as slow and mostly just as meaningless.

I think it's just about the fact that all of this we're seeing are Bruce's nightmares, i.e. it's all his mind talking with itself. Neither Selina nor the Question (any of them) are involved.

I have no love for the arch as a whole, but I gotta say, I love the "if you left him to make him strong, why is he so much weaker now?" scene.

I confess I warmed to "Oh honey, do you think I CARE?" from Selina to the Question's usual waffling.

It does help with the "King knows that the whole Batman can't be happy thing is B.S. and is going to have Bruce and Selina marry at the end" theory.

So major characters are smoking again?

In DC. Marvel still isn't doing it. The closest we got was Ben Grimm's bachelor party, and they were explicitly stated to be candy cigars.

I think the only regular smokers DC's had who've stopped are Perry White and Commissioner Gordon (who was made to quit in-universe when he temporarily became Batman, and I'd thought started again after, but I can't seem to find him lighting up since, so maybe I'm misremembering)...

Oddly, this is actually the first time I can think of that I've seen Selina smoking...
