Imagine a world where Doom was allowed to be happier and NOT be the worst bad guy. Not that it would ever happen.

"The laws of story would suggest that no cure can last for very long, Benjamin. For in the end, alas, you are more interesting and satisfying as you are."

A world in which Doom is happier and can mend fences with the Fantastic Four and not be the worst bad guy ever would be nice for him and them as people, to be sure. But as characters in a superhero story, well, it would most likely suck and be kind of boring, to be brutally honest, because it would mean the end of their battles, and their battles are precisely why people enjoy reading and writing superhero stories to begin with. Sure, you can maybe shake up the status quo temporarily every so often, maybe dabble in the odd non-canon elseworld here and there, maybe even if you're really lucky and clever you'll write something that's a good idea and doesn't break the premise too much for it to stick around. But in the mainstream universe, that status quo has been resetting itself for sixty-odd years and it ain't gonna stop any time soon.

Sure, it's repetitive and static, but, well, that's mainstream superhero comics for ya.
