One of the complaints I had about Mariko Tamaki's She Hulk series was that it was slow. I want to revisit it at some point next week, but my vague recollection is that while it was slow, the first arc was building towards something. Rowell's run is good, but also feels slow and I'm not entirely sure where it's going. As part of my planned re-read, I had a quick squint at Mariko Tamaki's Hulk #11, which is a quick little date night story.

Patsy Walker: Hellcat is still Jen's pal after being her investigator in the Charles Soule run, and she helps Jen with her swiping, picking out dresses, and by summoning a montage of Jennifer's previous romantic history.

Jen also has a problem with pink narration boxes giving a Samantha style commentary on the great tradition of Date Night

TBH, after having to perform and be a particular version of yourself for a date, taking off your mask at the end of the night is pretty good. But I usually wait until I get home to do it.

And a bit of promotion for the TV show.

Oof, did they really have to bring up Juggernaut again? And I don’t think Jen would look back on Starfox all that fondly given what a complete ****show that whole debacle turned out to be.

I still don’t understand why they couldn’t have just painted her green and done some LOTR-style camera tricks, but EEEEEEEE! Please be good please be good please be good…

Starfox was probably great in bed. Its what the Avenger girls keep him around for, I expect. That and if someone has the DiDi problem

On a similar note, I'm still trying to figure out how "What if Hitler developed super-soldiers" led to a modern-day rideshare app that tried to destroy the taxi industry and purposefully treated its workers like dirt.

My assumption is that given the political climate at the time, it was considered maybe too depressing to keep going.

Avatar’s been having financial problems so the book, along with most of their line, is on indefinite hiatus. There were only like two or so issues left before the series conclusion.

Not either of the original posters but "Uber as a reference to Ubermensch and used as the title for a comic series about literal Nazi supermen" vs. "Uber as the name for a rideshare app." looks like it's posted as a response to your asking about "DiDi as the name of a Chinese taxi app" vs. "whatever else the DiDi problem is."

That is, it's not *answering* your question, but then again, it was prefaced with "on a similar note" so it's just riffing on it. Still, that's not "unrelated nonsense," it's "related nonsense (humor)".

And now that I've gone all vivisectionist on the whole thing, I'll note that I'm curious about what "the DiDi problem" is as well.

"The DiDI problem" refers to Désirée "DiDi" Chastel, a character in Gisèle Lagacé, comic "Menage a 3" and her condition of anorgasmia.

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/MenageA3

Generally I feel these are far more well known than Chinese apps, especially among comic fans.

How many people here apart from us two have read Ménage à 3? Heck, even I didn’t get it. There’s lots of people named DiDi.

He was her client and she was his lawyer. It’s just one of many weird sex things that happened in the Austen era.

So, it's not a Juggernaut thing then? Wouldn't it be better to refer to it differently then? Because putting it like that seems like he'd be the offending party. It's just that the guy doesn't really need the extra baggage, does he? He's got enough of his own.

The relevant pages have been up here, I believe, btw.

If I recall correctly, Dan Slott retconned away the encounter because he didn't like the idea of Jen sleeping with someone who had tried to murder her cousin. But that's an old memory, and possibly not 100% accurate.

Which makes it even less of a Juggernaut issue. Not that it would be even if it was the real Jen. The ethical problem is the lawyer forsaking their impartiality, or whatever is the correct term in legal lingo, the other party is not really expected to adhere to the conventions the lawyers do.

And Earth-A thing has also come up before. Lets just have it taken that if it's been up here I've most likely seen it.

It’s a shame, it’s a sweet enough moment out of context. I have to wonder how it’d feasibly work though given how huge his limbs are here.

Yeah, I definitely meant it more as a Jennifer thing than a Juggernaut thing and I didn’t really think enough about how else it could have been taken. Sorry for the confusion.

I thought the whole Juggernaut thing was explained away as being Jen from Earth-A who slept with him.

Has She-Hulk's fourth wall breaking ever been acknowledged in-universe? Outside of "who are you talking to" throwaway gags, I mean. In a more substantial way?

It sounds like the sort of thing somebody somewhere would do something with.

I can't remember what series it was, but I do recall there being an old comic where She-Hulk was depicted as a rambling lunatic who kept talking to people that weren't there, much to the confusion of everyone around her.

Glad to see Juggernaut back in canon. Also, seems like that execrable run where she had a romantic history of hundreds if not thousands of partners is out, and good riddance!

Jen has always had the most normal dating history if Marvel women, as I see it.

Interesting to see how many of her brief connections had duper strength.

I’m not, in any other scenario it would have been fine but in the context of the story it was a gross breach of lawyer-client relations.

Jen can't have been his lawyer, no matter what Austen thought. Thats not how laws work. She does not have a Canadian law degree. At best, she was in an advisory capacity.

May I ask what you mean exactly by normal in this case?

Date: 2022-07-24 06:54 pm (UTC)
From: [personal profile] gnarll
She had one long relationship, Wyatt Wingfoot, and when that ended she had a few one-night stands. After, she has had a couple of shorter relationships. That seems more like normal than any other superhuman woman in the MU that I can think of.

It wasn't until Slotts run that he tried to bump her numbers up into the stratosphere.

That was apparently partially brought on by Starfox playing matchmaker with the two. They’re the relationship identified by “short-lived” above.

... I gotta ask, if they went out of their way to build a trap robot to set her up on a date with, why did they decide to make him an obnoxious self-important mansplaining JBP fanboy?

Wouldn't it have made more sense to make their trap-bot be charming and interesting enough for Jen to decide to let him walk her home at the very least?

Date: 2022-07-25 05:55 pm (UTC)

I would guess that the point is that they're clueless enough to believe this guy would be charming.
