ozaline: Ozma from Skottie Young and Eric Shanower's Ozma of Oz comic adaptation (Ozma)

Erin Ptah of But I'm a Cat Person. Did an adaptation of a scene where L Frank Baum addresses a rather large plot hole in the Oz books, and it only took him eight books to do it. I'll let Baum set the scene:

As they turned away Betsy said wonderingly:

"Do all the animals in Oz talk as we do?"

"Almost all," answered Dorothy. "There's a Yellow Hen here, and she can talk, and so can her chickens; and there's a Pink Kitten upstairs in my room who talks very nicely; but I've a little fuzzy black dog, named Toto, who has been with me in Oz a long time, and he's never said a single word but 'Bow-wow!'"

"Do you know why?" asked Ozma.

"Why, he's a Kansas dog; so I s'pose he's different from these fairy animals," replied Dorothy.

"Hank isn't a fairy animal, any more than Toto," said Ozma, "yet as soon as he came under the spell of our fairyland he found he could talk. It was the same way with Billina, the Yellow Hen whom you brought here at one time. The same spell has affected Toto, I assure you; but he's a wise little dog and while he knows everything that is said to him he prefers not to talk."

"Goodness me!" exclaimed Dorothy. "I never s'pected Toto was fooling me all this time." Then she drew a small silver whistle from her pocket and blew a shrill note upon it. A moment later there was a sound of scurrying footsteps, and a shaggy black dog came running up the path.

The webcomic PVP is addressing how to be an ally if you're not sure how tostart (at least I hope that's where it's going)

Plato's Apology, as any first-year philosophy student could tell you, doesn't have Socrates apologize for challenging others' conventional opinions. Rather, it presents his defence (the actual meaning of the Greek apologia) of his actions. But what, imagines Corey Mohler's webcomic Existential Comics, if Socrates had in fact defended himself in the form of an "apology?"

Some more comics for the 'Game of Thrones' premiere tonight.

For those who don't know, the artist of Oglaf also ran a 'A Song of Ice and Fire' themed blog on Tumblr where she would post related comics usually involving Theon Greyjoy and Ramsay Bolton done in her usual style of humor. Her tumblr has been removed for some reason but some of her comics are still available. If you're not familiar with the show or the books they probably won't make much sense.

As a warning the comic alludes to (while not showing) acts of torture and there's some general NSFWishness. For those who haven't read the books and have only watched the show Ramsay's appearance here is based off the original text.

Now it might seem odd me posting this, I am not American, and I am a cis-male, and one for whom parenthood is never likely to be a thing.

But that's sort of the point.... )
