Why not compare the Marvel concept of an evolved machine mind becoming a deity to the Distinguished Competition's approach, a couple of decades ago in <i>Legion</i> (of superheroes, but we're too cool for that part, right?).<br /><br /><br /><img src="https://i.imgur.com/iJIxXKL.jpeg" /><br /><br />For a little context, it is the 31st century, and this is the reboot Legion (or the Legion of Reality-247 if you want to get Johnsian about it). Our heroes have recently thwarted an attempt to artificially evolve humanity by Ra's al Ghul (or a sentient pool of blood that thought it was Ra's - I'm not sure that ever got fully explained).<br /><br />In the wake of this conflict, an army of alien robots has invaded Earth, led by a forgotten AI supervillain. Its goal is not conquest (that would be for when DnA re-mix elements of their <i>Legion</i> run a few years later for <i>Annihilation: Conquest</i>) but to usurp the evolutionary process and ascend to deity-dom!<br /><br /><span class="cut-wrapper"><span style="display: none;" id="span-cuttag___1" class="cuttag"></span><b class="cut-open">( </b><b class="cut-text"><a href="https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/10527984.html#cutid1">Read more...</a></b><b class="cut-close"> )</b></span><div style="display: none;" id="div-cuttag___1" aria-live="assertive"></div><br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=scans_daily&ditemid=10527984" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-05-01:172314:10501885shakaloolooThe Conclusion to Grootfall2024-02-25T09:53:02Z2024-02-25T09:53:02Zpublic9Posted by: <span lj:user='shakalooloo' style='white-space: nowrap;' class='ljuser'><a href='https://shakalooloo.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://shakalooloo.dreamwidth.org/'><b>shakalooloo</b></a></span><br /><br /><img src="https://i.imgur.com/85FLdSS.jpeg" /><br /><br /><i>"The spectacular arc that preceded ours, created by the unbeatable Al Ewing and a cohort of brilliant artists, had ended in the happiest of endings. I dunno if it's the right approach, but it's the one I'm using. It should contrast the book nicely with the other Avengers books. Since I started responding to this interview, Marvel's commissioned Naked Avengers from Bendis, but that opens with a six-issue arc entitled "Avengers Disrobed," so we're still good." - Warren Ellis<br /><br /><span class="cut-wrapper"><span style="display: none;" id="span-cuttag___1" class="cuttag"></span><b class="cut-open">( </b><b class="cut-text"><a href="https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/9609180.html#cutid1">Read more...</a></b><b class="cut-close"> )</b></span><div style="display: none;" id="div-cuttag___1" aria-live="assertive"></div><br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=scans_daily&ditemid=9609180" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-05-01:172314:9532276laughing_treeTimeless #12022-01-29T05:04:09Z2022-01-29T05:04:09Zpublic20Posted by: <span lj:user='laughing_tree' style='white-space: nowrap;' class='ljuser'><a href='https://laughing-tree.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom; border: 0; padding-right: 1px;' /></a><a href='https://laughing-tree.dreamwidth.org/'><b>laughing_tree</b></a></span><br /><br /><img src="https://abload.de/img/141bjks.jpg" /><br /><br /><em>Kang is an interesting character to me because he presents two often conflicting viewpoints: he values humanity and all of its accomplishments, being, in effect, an extreme historian, but also has little to no regard for any individuals other than himself. Published in-house using mainly 2000ad veterans and featuring early work by Kieron Gillen and Si Spurrier, 'Warhammer Monthly' - later 'Warhammer Comic' near its cancellation where it went bi-monthly - was British black and white, in US page size, a weird combination.<br /><br />The first three issues were okay, but then issue 4 gave us the first part of - IMHO - the title's best strip. Created by Jim Campbell co-writing with artist Kev Walker - and bearing not a little similarity to their 2000ad collaboration 'The Inspectre' - Daemonifuge was quite different from everything else.<br /><br />Quite, quite different...<br /><br /><span class="cut-wrapper"><span style="display: none;" id="span-cuttag___1" class="cuttag"></span><b class="cut-open">( </b><b class="cut-text"><a href="https://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/9053165.html#cutid1">Read more...</a></b><b class="cut-close"> )</b></span><div style="display: none;" id="div-cuttag___1" aria-live="assertive"></div><br /><br /><img src="https://www.dreamwidth.org/tools/commentcount?user=scans_daily&ditemid=9053165" width="30" height="12" alt="comment count unavailable" style="vertical-align: middle;"/> commentstag:dreamwidth.org,2009-05-01:172314:8509596laughing_treeThe Amazing Spider-Man #28 - "Who Run the World?, Part Three"2019-09-15T13:32:30Z2019-09-15T13:32:30Zpublic12Posted by: <span lj:user='laughing_tree' style='white-space: nowrap;' class='ljuser'><a href='https://laughing-tree.dreamwidth.org/profile'><img src='https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png' alt='[personal profile] ' width='17' height='17' style='vertical-align: text-bottom;
