With the rerelease of 'The Killing Joke' a few years ago Brian Bolland opted to recolor the original art to his liking as John Higgins' coloring wasn't what he intended the book to look like. This of course has proven to be controversial and has been compared to George Lucas messing around with Star Wars.

I'm in the minority but I actually prefer the new recolors with some exceptions. The big difference is that the original is much more garish and psychedelic whereas the new colors are much more stark and muted.

My only real issue is that the original coloring is technically out of print and not at all available in a digital format. DC is rectifying this somewhat with 'The Absolute Killing Joke' which contains both coloring so hopefully the original will be available in some capacity in the near future.

A certain British comic made a milestone event back in December.

Let's take a look at a few pages from the issue!

While it leaked online a few days ago the movie had a theatrical screening tonight and it becomes legally available for purchase tomorrow so I thought I'd make this thread.

It's finally confirmed that Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill will both be doing their respective roles in 'The Killing Joke'. Tara Strong and Ray Wise will be playing Barbara and James Gordon respectively. Hamill posted the first image above.

So posting infamously dark storylines in superhero comics seems to be the in-thing to do these couple days, and what better way than to continue the trend than with the comic that (arguably) started it all? But then I realized that everyone's probably already too bone-tired from picking Identity Crisis apart, so I decided to post the (relatively) funnest part from said comic instead.

(Also, I was originally going to title this "Accentuate the Negative", but then I realized there are some things too distasteful even for me.)

Insert Mitch McConnell joke here. )

This should surprise no one who's familiar with my posts in this community, nor, really, anyone who pays attention to my username.

I. Love. The. Joker. Always have, probably always will.

Now, I'm fully aware of the "Batman/the police/some civilian should totally kill this asshole Villain Sue!" sentiment on many corners of the Internet, and I can understand them. Hell, in some ways, I emphasize with them. For the last ten or fifteen years, the man who once proudly called himself the Clown Prince of Crime has been headed down a pretty steep slide into mindless, humorless violence (interspersed with those obnoxious events that shove themselves in our faces and scream "SEE! SEE? THE JOKER IS BATMAN'S #1 VILLAIN AGAIN! HE'S NO LAUGHING MATTER NOW, BABY!"), and if anything, the DCnU and Scott Snyder have only exacerbated it.

And yet... and yet, no matter how low his low points get, they can never quite cancel out the highs. Perhaps those high points will never return, but even if that's so, he's already got plenty under his belt for us to peruse at our leisure.

Besides, I just can't hate a face like this.

Here's a bit from IDW's Free Comic Book Day Judge Dredd issue.

The first chapter of Judge Death's first appearance, which is conveniently 1/3rd of the story. (Yes, I could post the whole thing, but I want you to buy the collection.)

Lo, there shall come a Dark Judge )

It's been confirmed over on Newsarama, amongst other places, that Zatanna is getting a new look for her forthcoming appearance in the Justice League title, and in honour of that, I thought I'd post a sample of some of her past outfits, because she's had quite an assortment over the years, and as Freddy Mercury said...

No, not Dredd IN shorts, though that's quite the image... but shorts starring Judge Dredd

These are some Judge Dredd newspaper strips from the late 1980's which appeared in the Daily Star newspaper and which were collected... As they are all done-in-one, half a page long strips, I think I can post their entirety without problem.

As promised, this is the second mega-posting to celebrate the end of "Dude(s) in Distress Week", dealing with published images... (This is sort of a "Greatest Hits", as much of it has been posted before)

The history of the "Dude in Distress" in graphical literature is a long and noble one... there are probably medieval woodcuts showing that sort of thing, but as that slightly predates most of the usual area of scans_daily, we'll skip to something vaguely more recent... well, relatively speaking.

LOTS of scans under the cut, but I've used smallish thumbnails so as not to kill your broadband completely! Just stun it slightly...
