Greetings, Chew believers!

There's a big Awooga from me this week as Chew v.4 came out in TPB (and with it, the Omnivore edition v.2, collecting #10 to #20.)

I've not read any of Chew 16-20, though I have read 27.

I've already posted the scene where Tony and Amelia Mintz met properly as well as their first date proper.

Tony and Amelia moved in together. But Amelia isn't Tony's first girlfriend...

Despite my best efforts, Chew still seems to be a title without much hype on Scans_Daily. Considering that I'm trade-waiting, that's not such a bad thing.

However, the most recent issue of Chew was where I made an exception and picked up the single issue. You see, this issue is from Spring 2012.

Chew #27 is part 2 of the not-yet-begun Space Cakes arc and follows on from #18 and sets up for #19 in no real way at all.

The premise is largely the same: There's an agent of a US government group, investigating strange stuff and is themselves a bit strange. Except this time we're following Toni Chu of NASA, twin sister of Tony Chu of the FDA.

And this is her backstory )

If only I didn't have to wait about a year for #28 to come out, since this ended on a cliffhanger

I've posted a few pieces from Chew already, with some success and a lot of indifference.

Here's a straightforward scene from #2 of Chew, available in the Taster's Choice tpb

I could probably have posted this in awesome new female characters week. It's Amelia Mintz, saboscrivener and love interest of the Eisner winning (Best New Series 2010) Chew.

Chew's a novel series that does different things with story-telling, tells an engaging and unique story, builds up the mythos piece by piece. It's a book that's full of new ideas, though it's got some heavily stylised art choices and standard layouts. There's a strong level of humour in it, though it's not just a funny book. There's also loads of Easter eggs put in the book.

From the blog
Tony Chu is a cop with a secret. A weird secret. Tony Chu is Cibopathic, which means he gets psychic impressions from whatever he eats. It also means he's a hell of a detective, as long as he doesn't mind nibbling on the corpse of a murder victim to figure out whodunit, and why. It`s a dirty job, and Tony has to eat terrible things in the name of justice. And if that wasn`t bad enough, the government has figured out Tony Chu`s secret. They have plans for him… whether he likes it or not.

So I've been wondering if anybody else in the world is reading this series, I need somebody to laugh with me at its chicken-obsessed ridiculousness.

The preview is here at CBR and it shows the first few pages of the plot. That last page had me giggling, ngl :)

3 pages following-ish the preview ahead )

I am now a big fan of Chew after hearing nothing bad about the book and buying Vol.1: Taster's Choice.

This is why )

I clicked into the blog of C.B. Cebulski (writer of X-Infernus and assorted shorts and one-shots) the other day and saw this little gem posted there -- a six-page comic about the weirdest encounters he's ever had reviewing art portfolios at conventions.

It's worth making the trip to his blog to see the whole thing.
