Hold on... this is after Under Siege, isn't it? Why's Monica suddenly being so insecure? (I mean, I suppose after the events of that and then tussling with guys like Zeus her confidence might've taken a dent, but can't recall her being this unsure before.)
Mark Gruenwald insisted Roger Stern make Monica seem ineffectual and push Captain America. Stern refused and was fired/quit. Ralph Macchio was brought in to finish the story and was only too happy to defame Monica.
