Fantastic Four #393

Writer: Tom DeFalco

Pencils: Paul Ryan

Inks: Danny Bulanadi

The Fantastic Four might have disbanded, but that won’t stop Lyja from being the worst.

Cut to Sue in Latveria.

Back with Johnny, and he has picked up a stalker.

Cut to Sue again.

Yes, Nathaniel Richards is pretending to be Doctor Doom for... reasons.

I totally get why the University won't let Johnny back in after what happened to the campus. But isn't Johnny still a fugitive? So, how was he even able to enter the campus at all without someone calling the cops on him?

It would have been nice of them to show us how Johnny was cleared, especially since the Fearsome Foursome have been making Johnny's life miserable for months.

"So Johnny rejected me because he doesn't trust me? Sounds like I'll have to stalk him into trusting me!"

Lying or stalking, Lyja's go-to solution for absolutely everything.
Including being called out for lying about stalking.

The concept of a shapeshifting super-soldier stalker is pretty alarming.

Oh, wait. Defalco's not remotely playing the concept for horror.

Did somebody say 'another subplot'?

Nate, bud, maybe next time lead with the fact you're not Doom before Sue wallops you through a wall.

I'd wonder if it's a cultural thing, like Skrull romance is focused on deception and lying and it's considered healthy and normal, and so Lyja simply doesn't understand why it makes Johnny angry.

But no, Xavin was able to figure out Earth relationships just fine and they weren't trained for years on how to be human. So clearly Lyja just sucks.

Working theory: The Skrulls sent Lyja on the deep cover assignment to replace Alicia in the hope she'd be caught or captured, because even they don't want a damn thing to do with her.

(Might explain why when she got recruited for Veranke's plan her job was essentially turn the Baxter Building into a bomb.
"Well, sending her to Earth didn't work. Have we tried another dimension?")

Given all the stuff that her father in law's done, I don't imagine that there's much he could say to prevent her from knocking him through a few walls.

If you've got a better way of skulking around Doom's castle without drawing questions, I'd like to hear it.

(Okay, there is Sue's way, but I'm pretty sure he can't do that.)
