Given the last time Betsy went up against a dangerous serial killer it ended with her getting her eyes gouged out, maybe leaving the fight to the fella with the healing factor and unbreakable bones is the sensible choice.
Even if his win-loss record against Sabretooth is shaky at best.

Sabretooth didn't have that kind of winning streak yet. Prior to this, he was getting embarrassed by the Black Cat.

Ah yes, this was during the super strong era of Sabretooth trying to find his power set. I mean, seriously, punching Logan, with his weighty adamantium and all, through the ceiling and across the roof.

Wasn't this before adamantium was established / retconned as being heavy?

Either way, when have you punched someone even with regular bones through the ceiling so hard he skips along the roof?

If so, I don't think it would matter who was there, it was all mainly to set up their fight.
