Kryptonian Crack: the Supergirl The Movie comic adaptation
So, I happened across a cbr of the Supergirl Movie Special comic the other week, and in honor of the news that Helen Slater's going to be involved in the writing of Supergirl #50, I thought I'd post some of it. 16 pages of a 48-page story, plus 3 pinups. Adaptation written by Joey Cavalieri from Gary Odell's film script, art and colors by Gray Morrow.

Meet Wee Kara of Argo City, last remnant of mighty Krypton, who is currently pestering city founder Zoltar. Also, meet our movie's MacGuffin, the Omegahedron!

Wee Kara's incredible clumsiness causes Argo City to lose the Omegahedron in a segment I've cut for space, soooo....

Meet our villainess, Selena the eeevil sorceress bent on world domination, and her mentor Nigel. That's Peter Cook and Mommie Dearest herself, Faye Dunaway there.

And the MacGuffin is soon followed by...

But what's a poor alien girl to do?

It's established on page 1 that Kara knows her cousin is on Earth. But somehow she knows he's Clark Kent, and in the page following this forges a recommendation letter from him. We also learn Nigel is a teacher at Midvale School. Lucy Lane becomes Linda's roommate, and she's dating Jimmy Olsen. And then there are further shenanigans with the school's Mean Girls, which I have cut for space, and also because I have a shred of mercy in my soul.
Meanwhile, Selena and her henchwoman Bianca (Brenda Vaccaro!) have met our love interest, the indolent hunk o'burnin' love Ethan, and Selena has hatched a sinister scheme...

While Selena is distracted by a visit from Nigel, the roofie'd Ethan staggers out into the carnival, where Lucy, Jimmy and Linda are wandering around.

Selena's spell-hijacked bulldozer wreaks havoc on the carnival. A quick change to Supergirl later, and - guesses? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Yeah, that's right. Kara's acquired an archenemy over this dude. She deals with an invisible monster Selena sends to Midvale School quite cleverly in a segment I've cut for space. For reasons not clearly explained, the bracelet Zoltar gave Kara glows when the MacGuffin is near, and as Linda she follows the glow back to the carnival, where Ethan is waiting with roses, chocolates, and the Creepy Stalker Full Court Press.

With Nigel's help Selena magically drags Ethan to her love nest and chains him - literally, with a big padlock - to her bed. She then betrays Nigel and sets Ethan up as bait for a trap Supergirl quickly walks into, and Selena magically ships her off to the Phantom Zone.

That is, of course, hard as hell, and she loses Zoltar along the way. Meanwhile Selena and Bianca set about taking over Midvale, every supervillain's first stop on the World Domination Tour. Jimmy and Lucy are leading a protest against her, and Bianca overhears the two of them chatting about their missing friend Linda. The villainesses put two and two together and have stormtroopers in riot gear seize the lovebirds; Selena pens them and Nigel up in big round cages suspended from the ceiling - buy 2 get 1 free sale at Villains 'R' Us, perhaps.

Kara freezes the spikes with super-breath so they shatter on contact, and sends the hostages running. Selena conjures a Dark(er) Selena to battle Kara, femslashily...

I believe we've found the prototype of the Edward and Bella teenage romance model here, guys.

And all's well that ends well!
The comic also includes (bad) reprints of a few movie publicity stills, so I'm posting them for your viewing pleasure. They're not part of the story so I don't think they count against my page limits, but if I'm wrong, mods just say so and I'll take them down.

Say what you will about what a crappy movie this was - and there's plenty to say - but daamn, she looks good in that outfit.
Seriously, folks, if you're a fan of Supergirl upskirts, find yourself a copy of this thing. Gray Morrow drew pages and pages of them I didn't even have room to post here.
