The Truth of Doom.

Greetings True Believers! Here are four scans from DOOMWAR #3.

Dr. Doom wants to steal all the vibranium in Wakanda. To do so he has to face down the Panther God.

Victor Von Doom vs. a god. Guess who blinks first? Spoilers and enjoy!

Doom is breaking his way into the Royal Wakandan vault that holds 10,000 tons of vibranium. He is at the last lock: The Purity Arch. A psycho-spiritual polygraph that forces a person to reveal his true self. Any hint of guile, duplicity or evil intent and the person is disintegrated.

Doom strips off his armor and steps through.

Doom: "Unguarded, naked, weaponless, I offer myself up for judgment."

Booming voice: "THEN BE JUDGED"

Doom finds himself...elsewhere.

"You are nowhere. This place does not exist. You do not exist. All that exists is this moment and the question of purity. I will look into your soul, Victor Von Doom. If you lie to me, if your heart is impure, if your motivations are tainted by greed or hatred, I will know.

"I am Bast, Cat God of Egypt, Panther God of Wakanda. Lie to me, Doom, and I WILL DEVOUR YOU!"

Doom: "I know who you are. And I know that when I stepped through that arch, my life was forfeit."

"But know this: I give to you what I have given to no one else. I open my mind and heart and soul to you."

Bast: "Is that bravery or arrogance that puts such steel in your voice?"

Doom: " Neither. It is faith. I know who and what I am. Look into my soul, cat god. Look and see the truth that is DOOM."

It begins.

Bast: "You would slaughter millions to save billions. You would rewrite history, wreck nations, let yourself be called a tyrant and a murderer. All to satisfy your dream of one world under Doom."

Bast: "And yet."

Bast: "You believe that this is the only path to salvation for all mankind. You believe that with your whole heart. Everything you have ever done--your plots and twisted excesses--all serve this one goal."

Bast: "I, too, have looked into the million pathways of the future. I, too, have seen the one path that leads to a world without evil, without hurt, without want. And though my own soul cries out in denial, I must act according to the truth."

Bast: "Though your methods are abhorrent and vile, your intent is pure. You have passed the test. The vibranium is yours to take....do with it as you will."

Checkmate....Doom.

A wonderful Victor moment. This is one of the scenes that convinces me that Doom is the perfect super-villain.

Marvel time machines don't actually do anything useful, do they? I'm pretty sure that using a time machine in the Marvel U just gives you holodeck adventures.

That said, given that his origin is "used a machine to open a gate to Hell" I tend to assume that Doom just always uses magic and technology together when he feels like it. He used magic to see the future, but that doesn't mean it wasn't as a component in his Time-Viewing Omnicomputer.

I agree that the T'challa thing was just for illustration for the Panther God's sake. This isn't undermining "Rule the world, stomp down Richards" - it's just giving what the author believes is the reason he is motivated to do these things.

Actually Marvel has done very poorly with the time travel thing lately. It seems it's now possible to mess with history.

Doom's time-machine SPECIFICALLY lets him mess with history. That's why people keep trying to steal that one and not use just any one.
