From Geoff Johns Twitter account....

"DC ENTERTAINMENT IS DEVELOPING A LIVE ACTION BLUE BEETLE TV SHOW! :)"

BLUE BEETLE NEWS from DCE!! We have a live-action test of Jaime Reyes' scarab activating his suit. It. Is. Awesome

If I can break it out of the vault, I'll bring it to SDCC. LIVE ACTION BLUE BEETLE!!

Blue Beetle's going to appear in most of the Brave and the Bold's this year and we're hoping to develop a live-action show. Fingers crossed!

When asked for a comment, Jaime Reyes of El Paso, Texas declared himself

Hopefully they don't screw this one up... KEEP his family and friends as his support network that's for damned sure. Not grimdark, but not a pure sitcom. etc etc

char: blue beetle/jaime reyes, creator: keith giffen, creator: john rogers, creator: cully hamner, title: blue beetle

I'm thinking they're shopping around for a series to replace Smallville soon. Blue Beetle would be awesome!

Also, this was my physical reaction.

I hope we get Jamie-from-his-own-series Jamie and not Teen Titans Jamie.

What. The. Fuck.

*flail*

Dude, if this works, do you think he'll get his own solo back? *crosses fingers*

Let's hope this works out for the best!

Because...the alternatives are basically heinous to imagine.

Ooh, this could either be really horrendous or incredibly amazing. At the very least, it gives me hope that we may yet see final rest for the lurching, decomposing, undead corpse of Smallville.

And the countdown to Jaime being renamed Jamie and being played by a 26 year old WASP with the show being relocated to the Midwest/Canada begins!

My tendency towards extreme pessimism puts this in the DO NOT WANT category for me...

That could be fucking AMAZING.

Take your cues from Japan, Blue Beetle TV team! Make it better than any Kamen Rider has ever been!

It will be awesome. The kid playing Milagro will not need a clip round the ear, and Paco will have his stick. There will be a loving supportive family that will never be killed off for cheap drama, and Khaji-Da will be cute and burbly, but not a mechanical-owl-animated-by-Harryhausen sort of way.

Did I leave my Blue Lantern Ring in the front room again?

I want to be excited...but then reality sets in and I assume the worst.

How much will be sacrificed to shoehorn this onto TV? How much will focus groups change Jaime to white...or worse, to be scripted white? How much will they change things to shoehorn BB into a weekly show, dropping all that makes Jaime unique or interesting.

My first expectation is that they'll eject everything that makes the character appealing to make him more generic and marketable. I hope I'm wrong. I would LOVE to be wrong. But pessimism seems more the likely reaction.

I think Blue Beetle would be a perfect show.

You've got three potential villains in La Dama, the Reach and also Max Lord.

They could have Ted still alive and guest star. I'd have the scarab in a cargo plane being transported to a lab for study rather than on the blown up Rock of Eternity.

Expect him to only partially armor up except in sweeps to save CGI costs

I second what everyone's been saying that this could be really, really great, or really, really horrible.

Of course, my dream tv show would be a sitcom starring Scott and Barda, so, yeah.

[personal profile] long_silence 2010-06-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to know what the scarab will sound like.

My sister doesn't believe it and most likely won't until some offical statment with art and footage is released.

Then I reminded her that it was Geoff Johns.

"God Has Twittered!" She declared.

I'll just say this'll be either really awesome or amazingly awkward, like everyone else says.

Live action Traci 13! Milagro! Alberto! Bianca! Paco! Brenda! La Dama!

I would love to see them do stuff with La Dama in the show, they never really had time to do anything with her and Jaime keeping her secret fro m Brenda since it was spilled by issue what 20?

[personal profile] psychopathicus_rex 2010-06-14 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
No matter HOW it turns out, it will be interesting to watch. DC hasn't done a real high-profile live-action hero show since 'Wonder Woman', that I know of. (Of course, there's 'Smallville', but that's more like a retroactive reimagining of a character's past, rather than a straight representation of then.)

I will take this moment to point out that the creator of Blue Beetle, Mr. John Rogers, was also behind both the unaired TV pilot adaptation of Global Frequency and the current hit TV series Leverage.

So basically, if John Rogers himself gets attached to this live-action series, I will proceed to Squee loud enough to wake the dead. Until then, my optimism remains as cautious as ever.

Blue Beetle with a laugh track? Could work.

[personal profile] celestialchild 2010-06-14 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
They had better not cast him with a white actor.

Otherwise I am moderately excited for this. I'm surprised they're talking about doing a TV series though~ would have sooner expected a film adaption.

This has the potential to be SO AWESOME.

Please, please, please let this series be as perfect and funny and non-whitewashed as it should be?
