The honored fallen.

Within the same week, one of Marvel's proud families has lost some of it's finest.

We honor their passing....

MASSIVE SPOILERS for Onslaught Unleashed #4 and Fear Itself #3

Rikki "Bucky" Barnes.
James "Bucky" Barnes.

R.I.P.

With my previous post about Onslaught Unleashed #4, I can only upload one more image. At piece with who she is and what she has become, Nomad makes the big sacrifice to stop Onslaught being remerging from her.

Her kindred spirit from another universe, James Buchanan, the current Captain America, holds the line at Washington D.C. against Skaldi and her Nazi mecha forces in Fear Itself #3.

Both characters rose above their sidekicks role to Steve and became their own fleshed-out individuals, able to step out on their own and lead through example. And I for one, am grateful to have been able to be introduced to them.

Actually, I think if it was left completely up to Bru, Bucky would have stayed Cap.

But they need Steve to be Cap since the movie is coming out, and major events need an A-List character to be killed off, so Fraction had at it.

Oh, false. He wanted to write Steve as Captain America— he's a big Steve fan and hasn't gotten to do that much.

Actually, the one who wanted Bucky to remain Captain America, who was against the new #1, was Joe Quesada.

Really? Because Bru brought Bucky back and made him Cap. Why would he make Bucky Cap just to bring Steve back?

I mean, he could've written Steve for as long as he wanted. He was the one who wrote himself into a corner.

Uh, because he wanted to write Bucky as Captain America too? Steve was originally not supposed to be dead that long, Bucky was never meant to become Captain America— that was a story that grew with the telling.

Actually, Steve's death was inspired by Civil War, which left Brubaker with limited options. Either he could ride off on a motorcycle and find America per Millar's original pitch, he could go to jail, which Brubaker didn't want to do because he'd just written that in Daredevil. Or he could kill him temporarily.

So he decided to kill him temporarily.

Yes, quite right turtlfu. They've been tooling Thor and Cap the way they tailored Iron Man to dovetail with the movies more effectively.

I do think the Winter Soldier could stand on it's own merits, in present day, or as a flashback anthology....unlimited potential there to weave him into the whole cold-war MU.

Cap/Bucky will undoubtedly be a WWII book.

Just PLEASE don't bring Bucky back ot fill that f#$king ugly NOMAD costume!!!!!!
