You know, it still wouldn't make the characterization any less horrible, but there was a better and easy way to say that:
"She's with us"
"So have you. . ."
"Yes, (so stop staring)"
Not MUCH better, but at least it isn't as forced.

If you don't want to use a character but have to anyway, don't shit on the character. If you don't think you can handle the character, do your best, or just treat the character blandly until you get a better handle on them or no longer are forced to use them.

And above all, don't fuck up their entire fucking SPECIES!
