Batman: Arkham City - Launch trailer!

Well, it's finally here, the Batgame of the Year! ...Though admittedly I have to wait for another week for my copy due to living in the UK. Blargh.

Anyways, here is the launch trailer! Including sightings of: Calendar Man, Poison Ivy, Bane, Talia, Robin and others.

The Mad Hatter and Black Mask are also meant to be in the game somewhere, but only Roman has actually appeared in one of the trailers (and even that was a back view).

For legality, Shortpacked!

That's...actually not as bad as I feel it should be. I always thought that Clooney was definitely a good choice for the character, he just had the rotten luck of being in the worst movie.

i KNOW i thought he was perfectly casted.... the movie was just.... baaaaad

[personal profile] darkknightjrk 2011-10-14 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say that about a lot of people in that movie--Schwartzenegger could have worked better as Freeze if he was doing it more like how he portrays himself in The Terminator instead of how he works in stuff like, say, Commando. Also, Uma Therman could have totally pulled of Poison Ivy if didn't play to camp as often, made her look a little more real-world scary.

totally, i don't think anyone was miscast. the script was just bad.

that includes alicia silverstone. I didn't think she was a bad choice as batgirl, she was strong, and confident, and protective of Alfred. i just think the script was HORRENDOUS

These days, I'd say he was a solid candidate for a Batman movie. The problem Clooney had back in 1997, of course, is that he was primarily known as that 'cute guy on ER' and little more. Things are a little different now, and it'd be interesting to see him have another stab at the character, once Grunty McDarkness is done.

[personal profile] darkknightjrk 2011-10-14 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, with the way he seems to operate now, I think Cloony would only do it if he was able to do Grunty McDarkness. In fact, now that I think about it, give him a few more years and get him to beef up, he might play a convincing DKR Batman.

Nah, Clooney at least has a sense of humour, whereas Bale seems to.take himself a little too seriously. With the right crew, I'm sure he'd be a better fit than he was in the 90's, although Keaton is still my favourite of the big screen Batmen.

Definitely agree with him being a good DKR Batman though, maybe in about another five years. The popular choice is always Eastwood, which I thought kind of missed the point of both Eastwood's work and DKR; Dirty Harry's a brutal but sane response to the inadequacies of the justice system. DKR Batman is an insane response to the terror of growing old and law and justice failing catastrophically.

Shit, now I'd love to see Clooney as OldBatman and Brad Pitt as OldBarryAllen, specifically for that scene in The Dark Knight Strikes Again where Batman casually announces how Luthor's going to die, and it's to the letter; Clooney would make that even more epic with his delivery.

I dunno, given some of Cloony's roles in recent years, I think he takes himself more seriously than Bale.

I'm not exactly sure if I agree with your take on DKR Batman, though. I think him and Dirty Harry are more or less the same. Bruce in that story tried to give it up, but he eventually went back to the way things were before, and was probably even trying to compensate a little. Of course, I seem to have a more sympathetic take on Miller's work, especially on Batman, than others here.

Pitt as Older Barry would be pretty awesome, though. :D

Seriously? Have you seen Clooney in his Coen Brothers work? He's hilarious in Uh Brother, Where Art Thou?, and his demented turn in Burn After Reading where he's the hyper-paranoid guy secretly and erratically building a sex machine in his basement? I definitely think Clooney's a serious actor, but he's at least in touch with his humour, which isnt something I can say for Bale.

I think there are a number of ways to interpret DKR Batman, so I'm not going to argue with you there, although I do think he's more of an extremist than Dirty Harry; Harry at least works in the confines of the law until it fails him, whereas Batman never has worked in a comfortable definition of the law. Still, I respect your liking Millar; the current Holy Terror rubbish aside, I think he does decent work. Like I say, I own a copy of DKSA; given how many are keen to crucify that book, that should say it all - I think DKSA is a wonderful ode to a time when comics were simpler and the like.

Clooney has a pretty special working relationship with the Coen Brothers, though. I think he appreciates that they find opportunities for him to play complete assholes. XD

I'm just in awe at how perfectly they're using Hugo Strange in this game. Chills, man.

Ditto. I don't particularly enjoy how Dini employs some of the villains - although one presumes he's being dictated to with regard to which villains are used in some cases - but his Strange and his Joker are absolutely spot on.

I'm glad we seem to be getting more of Joker's freaky TV-headed mannequins in the game; the use of those was epic and superbly creepy, last time.

Why does Talia have blonde hair in this? :<

Other than that I'm looking forward to this game. I also love the music in this trailer. :3

It looks brown to me, but it is kind of light.

I do really like her costume, though. After Harley's redesign in the first game, I was a bit wary.

Is that Solomon Grundy in the trailer? 0:38-0:39 thereabouts?

[personal profile] omgwtflolbbqbye 2011-10-15 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, he's a confirmed villain/boss fight. Hopefully there will be more twist on it than the Bane fights from AA.
mrstatham: (Default)

[personal profile] mrstatham 2011-10-15 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, it's him. Bit of an unorthodox choice, imo. I'm hoping he's not simply another boss fight like the endless Titan bosses in AA..

Tasia Valenza was telling the truth after all. Good to know. Glad Ivy's back.

Anyway, I hate to burst your bubbles...but....Catwoman playablity....it's complicated. I shall make a post about it
