To all things an End.

3 months in, and my how the tables have turned.

With DCnU relaunch and the domination of most of their titles across the comic book distrubutors, the mighty House of Ideas is feeling the blows. Here is a list of the titles that will be cancelled and/or will never see the light of day after February 2012.

ComicBookResources has the article discussing the latest on the growing line of titles to fall.

Daken, Dark Wolverine will end.

From the article:
"In a just-published interview with Comic Book Resources, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso revealed Daken: Dark Wolverine will be coming to an end, following a wave of cancellations that includes X-23 and Ghost Rider.

Although he didn’t indicate when the series will conclude, February’s Issue 21 is billed as “Issue one of the story the series has been leading up to,” suggesting the beginning of the final arc...."

it continues....

"... The Daken: Dark Wolverine news follows word of the conclusions of PunisherMAX and Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive, and the cancellations of Ghost Rider, X-23, Alpha Flight, Victor Von Doom, Destroyers, Iron Man 2.0 and All-Winners Squad."

Daken is joining the ranks of these other titles,

The Victor Von Doom mini was apparently actually cancelled due to production problems, not sales/financial reasons like the others. (Although that itself may have had a lot to do with the original editor being let go very shortly before it was due to come out.)

But yeah, there seems to be a general impression floating around that the budget slashing has little to do with Marvel being under actual financial pressure and everything to do with this guy trying to squeeze it till it bleeds more profits.

An interesting, if deeply depressing, article.

Given the incredible and ridiculous manner in which Brevoort can do spin doctoring, and the other books cancelled as of late, I don't believe his answer, personally. They're cancelling books left and right, after all, and yet Cloonan has a rep for being a workhorse. Doesn't quite smell right to me, especially since she's still doing Conan with Brian Wood.

Well, it could be that the former editor okayed something that his replacement then decided he didn't like. I mean, if they had an issue or more's worth of art already done and then the new guy turned around and said something like, "I don't think teenage Doom should be wearing jeans and sneakers," or, "I don't want this to look like it's set in a specific decade, get rid of all the period details," I can see how that might have made it impossible to get it redone on time. Although, yep, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was these new budget restrictions that made then choose to cancel it rather than just delaying the book.
