Meet Blackhawk

"He was a man in total control - unapproachable, unforgiving, unfathomable. He was his own law and his own morality. He lived in a world dominated by an atmosphere of fatalism. He was the first comic book anti-hero." -- Jim Steranko's History of Comics

If you find these too small to read, I have bigger scans here. They are almost to 2mbs a piece, so please no hotlinking.

Ann is one of the lucky ones. Falling for Blackhawk is often fatal within the story.

Also, for those familiar with the Blackhawks I feel the need to add this, NOTHING HAPPENED TO THESE GUYS AFTER THE 1950S. NOTHING, I SAY. They all died of old age while fixing planes or battling villains. And Chop-Chop became a world famous cook that funded the whole Blackhawk Enterprise when not punching out criminals or helping little old ladies across the street.

Blackhawk seems based on the premise, "What if the Nazis didn't have the coolest uniforms in WWII?" Also, that panel where Jack dies is pretty damn slashy... and while we're at it, what sort of Polish names are Jack and Connie, anyway?

"What if the Nazis didn't have the coolest uniforms in WWII?"

Even the Nazi's weren't sure about that on some occasions

You sly bastard, you! Was just thinking of this the other day, after watching the Librarian sketch.

[this was going to contain a reference of some sort, but dammit if there aren't too many good jokes]

"Also, that panel where Jack dies is pretty damn slashy... "

War stories are like that, what with them traditionally being 99.9% dudes and all.

I think I'd rather read about WACs and WAVEs and lady Blackhawks all bonding enigmatically. But in this style. Is that odd? Oh, well...

Perhaps involving a crash-landing on Golden Age! Paradise Island?

I wish I could write it for you (pl.) but historic research has never been my strong suit. [grumble]

Dog knows, a story like that would help distract from the "ick" of the current canon Diana. :(

Chuck Cuidera did in fact expressly pattern the Blackhawks' uniforms after the Nazis'--the intent possibly being to hijack a cool part of their imagery and throw it right back in their faces: http://www.povonline.com/cols/COL306.htm

Am I the only one thinking that the Blackhawks were airborne forerunners of the Inglourious Basterds?
