Birds of Prey #0 Proudly Presents....
The First Formation of the Birds of Prey!
Our story begins in Gotham City a year before the events of Birds of Prey #1, with DinahDrake Lance newly retired from Team 7 following the death of her husband Kurt (...or is he really? More on that in a bit)
Dinah decides to go undercover by working for Penguin in an effort to foil an illegal trade. Here she meets her first BFF:

Dinah gets hired by Penguin and as she gets to know her new comrades, she finds that she is somehow able to trust Ev, despite not trusting anyone else on there.
Also on the same night that she decides to foil the trade, she meets her next BFF.

Things don't exactly go smoothly between Dinah and Barbara on their first meeting, with the two squaring it off. Barbara mistakes Dinah for one of the bad guys (and of course working for Penguin wouldn't get her to think otherwise) and Dinah has to clarify that she's undercover.
Barbara asks if she works for the federal government and Dinah confirms that she was a part of something like that (though she doesn't specify Team 7) and is now freelancing. Together they foil the trade they both arrived to stop.
They meet up with Starling who points her gun to Barbara's head (who surprisingly doesn't experience any of the triggery PTSD feelings that she experienced in Batgirl #1?), but Babs of course quickly disarms her. The three then flee the scene together.
Upon returning to her place, Dinah reflects on the experience:

And that's not all! We learn a little something about Starling's past as well that could very well be a deciding factor in her future as a BOP member!

Even though this officially confirms nothing of the original Birds of Prey survived the reboot (and truthfully was anyone expecting to at this point?), I have to admit, I actually did like this issue and am looking forward to the next story arc. :x
