Code Monkey Save World

A comicbook series based on characters from JoCo's songs drawn by artist Takeshi Miyazawa and written by Greg Pak, yes please! Then we can have the makers of Glee steal it and tell him he should be thankful for the exposure! :D Yeah, I'm still bitter about that.

Okey, so we have Code Monkey (obviously), Skullcrusher, the Creepy Doll, the squid from I Crush Everything, the zombie from Re: Your Brains..., the cyborg woman from Better (I think) and Matilde... though I don't know where she's from.

Glee used his original arrangement of Baby Got Back in an episode without permission or even a credit. When the internet revolted, FOX just sent JoCo a letter saying that since it's a cover, they don't need to give him credit, and he should just be grateful for the exposure.

MC Hammer? I thought Sir Mix-a-lot did "Baby Got Back."

A while ago, Johnathan Coulton did a cover of Sir Mix A lot's baby got back. Glee stole the cover and used it for their show, and when Coulton complained they were very condescending and said he should just be happy for the exposure (Despite the fact they never mentioned it was his cover in the show.)

Coulton got back at them by rereleasing the song for sale and giving the money to charity.

And outselling the hell out of the Glee version, at that!

Yep, let this be a lesson: Do not arouse the ire of the Internet, for our vengeance is swift and terrible.

...Or mildly inconvenient.

Even worse, they didn't just crib the arrangement, but even included the altered lyrics-- the line that said "Mix-a-Lot's in trouble" was naturally changed in Coulton's song to "Johnny C's in trouble."

I can't tell whether this is a great thing or a terrible one. I'm definitely going to buy it either way.

Your current music is KENESAW MOUNTAIN LANDIS?
Is that an actual band name, or do you actually mean the first Commissioner of Baseball?

It's a song by JoCo, about the mighty enemy of Shoeless Joe.

things like this make me glad I joined twitter and thankful I have the wherewithal to pledge.

not a huge Pak fan (curse you, Phoenix Endsong) but this looks all kinds of awesome, and we're getting a new JoCo song out of it, too!

To borrow a phrase from Rupert Giles - "Once again I teeter at the precipice of the generation gap", as I have NO idea what any of this is about....

Honestly, even if I didn't, I wouldn't care. The cover includes monkey, hot women, zombies and giant octopuss. I'm sold.

Consider this your metaphorical rope ladder: an afternoon's light listening.
