Amazing Spider-Man #14






(Basically the red crystal holds the essence of Morlun's father)



Spider-Man brings him to "Uncle Ben"'s dimension which is filled with radiation which is toxic to Morlun and co. Morlun says that this will kill him, and Spider-Man tells him to go to the bomb shelter. It will keep him alive, but barely.

Are the new characters limited, or can you unlock them later?

Yes to both. When new characters are introduced there are events to win them, and for a limited time afterwards it's easier to get them from portals. After that they're added to the regular pool of possible characters, though some are easier to get than others, and not all are available at all times.
