I was amused by how the scene ended.

Wolverine vs Rachel, 2 #wolverine #rachelgrey #phoenix #enemyofthestate #markmillar #johnromitajr

Not to be kind to the Baroness, but the Baron's plans were terrible. Had he no idea what he was doing?

"Hi, HYDRA-possessed Wolverine! What are you doing?"

"..."

"So, you're going to make Rachel Summers-Grey, one of the most powerful mutants on Earth and the beloved only child of the feared cosmic force that burns away what doesn't work, murder the American president. Oh, and you're also going to rape her and probably murder her because she looks like her recently dead mother. And you'll be going after her friends, too, the ones she saw die terribly in her native timeline. And she knows you're going to do this because she's a powerful telepath. Also a telekinetic. Also an avatar of the Phoenix Force."

"..."

"... No, that's a great plan. You've got claws. And a healing factor! You can totally take her. I'm just going over here."

Well, the Baron was probably thinking "He's almost killed her before, so making him evil(er) is a guarantee of success! Studying strategy and tactics at the knee of Uncle Adolph has taught me much about such things! How can it fail?"

Yes, the Nazis did not exactly make good choices themselves,

Wasn't it revealed that his whole thing was an elaborate plan to convince everyone that he was dead on Strucker's part? Still, this is kinda phoning it in even if he isn't interested in Wolverine actually succeeding.

In a subsequent book out of this one?

In a pragmatic performance-based hierarchy like HYDRA, failure on this scale would be grounds for termination. I just wonder it got this far.

In another series (I guess some editors didn't think that highly of this either, since they okayed that). And that was just what Strucker got out of it, the other conspirators were really invested in this.

And what with Hydra owning SHIELD and all they had resources to waste, I guess.

This is true. It certainly got rid of the Baroness.
