Meet the Apollo Eleven

From this month's Astro City. They've been lurking in the edges of the series so far, making cameos and background appearances, but this issue we got our first detailed look at the Apollo Eleven.

And after one splash page showing off their spiffy HQ interiors...

It's really amazing that any of the current generation of Americans survived to adulthood. ;)

Really ? I find the current generation of Americans a bunch of neurotic, lazy, oafs. The last thing most of them want to do is take risks. Some members of Scan Daily exempted of course :)

So, so motto. I didn't know there was a new Astro City series coming out, let alone this month.

This isn't a new series, it's still part of The Dark Ages series, which started in 2005? Of course, this is book 3, but still.

Is this still "The Dark Age" that's been running for something like four years plus?

That is very much one of the rat creatures from Bone, isn't it?

Just in time for the fortieth anniversary of the real Apollo 11.

Forty years. Sheesh. Anyone besides me here old enough to remember it?

LGM looks strikingly like Royal. It's a touch disconcerting.

Man, I love Astro City. Some great, great stuff. Great artwork, too.
So since all Astro City characters are based upon some variety of already published superhero, what do you think the Apollo Eleven are based on? The original Guardians of the Galaxy? The Starjammers, perhaps?

A very Dave Cockhorn feel to them , Legion ?

'Cockhorn'? 'Cochrum', I believe you mean.

I think I've read concepts like that, astronauts transforming. Huh.

Astro City is awesome.
