I LOVE Yondu and his messed up relationship with Peter in the movies. It's seriously one of my favourite parts of the MCU, which is full of stuff I utterly adore.
But the comics' take on the MCU version of Yondu is just plain pathetic. He doesn't have 1/10 of the charisma.
Yeah. I don't think he's unsalvageable as he's basically just a scoundrel and a jerkass but not irredeemably so but the MCU character is ten times better.
Of course Rooker being Rooker adds a lot to that, given how he was able to make a character like Henry from Portrait of a Serial Killer almost likable and had people cry over Merle Dixon.
Yeah, but as you said, original!Yondu and comics' take on MCU! Yondu are two completely different characters. So a good portrayal of original!Yondu has nothing to do with the portrayal of this other Yondu here.
And anyway, it's not a matter of heroism to me. It's a matter of charisma, competence, and personality layers.
