DRAGON BALL SUPER: Meet Caulifla!!! (plus Kale)

Universe 6, as the ‘twin’ to Universe 7 (where Goku and friends live), shares many similarities to that Universe while also having somewhat small (but significant) deviations - for example, the Saiyans are not only still alive, but are a benevolent mercenary race, acting as an intergalactic peacekeeping force (think something like the MCU’s Nova Corps). ‘tis here where we are introduced to Caulifla, a roguish Robin Hood-type delinquent and the first official female Super Saiyan in the franchise!... in the anime, that is. Her first transformation happens offscreen in the manga. Still, said introduction is exciting nonetheless.

Remember to read from right to left. Full pages from Chapter 32 are posted, as the series (barring Chapters 2-15) is available for free on viz.com . If you like what you see here, please support the official release.

LAST TIME ON DRAGON BALL SUPER...

There are exactly 12 unique Universes that exist within the Dragon Ball multiverse, all overseen and ruled by the wise and just King(s) of Everything. Unfortunately, he’s decided that most of them don’t meet his standards of quality, and has decided to host a large battle royale (dubbed the Tournament of Power) to see which of the Universes he plans to eliminate deserve to survive. The Gods of Destruction are given 48 hours to recruit ten different warriors from their respective Universes. Participation is mandatory. The losers are eradicated from existence, while the winner gets a full set of Super Dragon Balls.

Champa, Beerus’ brother and God of Destruction for Universe 6, enlists the aid of a Saiyan captain named Cabbe to help recruit fighters for the Tournament.

For you see, Caulifla, you are not dealing with the average Saiyan warrior anymore

Can Kale come out of her shell to reach her potential? Will Universe 6 manage to get through the Tournament intact? Find out next time on DRAGON BALL SUPER!

You must've missed the part where I said Goku and Gohan are the only one's to earn SS1, Vegeta was the start of this bad trend. On Namek, the series through Goku and Freeza blatantly says "Vegeta can't get it because he's a remorseless mass murdering lunatic" and then in the very next arc, he gets SS for precisely that reason. Even Future Trunks in the manga doesn't earn it since he's born with like Goten and the timeliness Trunks.

The Vegetto comment has to do with their powers, Base Goku is stronger then a hypothetical SS3 Vegetto as he absorbed the power of SSGod into his Base form. Cabba, Caulifla and Kale are all on Base level, meaning these guys are stronger then basically everyone from before Beerus. Caulifla, who the series stops to say isn't a true martial artist, but a bralwer who has to learn how to fight properly so BASE GOKU doesn't knock her on her SS2 ass. Caulifla and certainly the frightened Kale are NOT seasoned fighters by any stretch.

Also, the U6 Saiyan's are described as a warrior race who actively go out and fight for justice and peace, meaning that they've probably seen a lot of shit across their history. Yet, they NEVER, across all the hypothetical wars and battles, never saw someone they love or care about die or get pissed off enough at an enemy to even accidentally discover Super Saiyan? That's ridiculous, especially since it doesn't take much more then generic thug threatens and a firm pat on the ass to make Cabba into one.

Which is another thing, Cabba is supposed to be a seasoned warrior but the entire series makes him look like an absolute dingus rookie. Also, like I just said, it didn't take much for this guy to turn SS, how in the hell has he apparently gotten some long, decorated career behind him and he's NEVER gotten that angry at anyone prior to Vegeta to accidentally learn SS?

Goten and Trunks having the form because of play fighting is just another instance of the franchise diminishing things that used to matter. It's not even a good explanation as the series wants you to believe Goten and Trunks are close to Gohan, Goku and Vegeta in terms of power as SS1 yet Gohan and Vegeta NEVER noticed two random massive powers like this flying around? Piccolo didn't notice two people stronger then him show up and go to investigate? But he apparently senses Freeza's bits and pieces get farted back into existence in Resurrection F?

The Androids being as strong as they are because they're Androids isn't an explanation, it's an excuse. 19 and 20? Sure, they're energy absorbing machines who can power up by eating other people's strength, Cell? He's a hodge podge of everyone's DNA. 17 and 18? They're just regular humans who's metal bits make them several times stronger then Freeza and Super Saiyan's.... because Gero studied ki? 16 is just a robot, made out of Earth bits and pieces, why is he even stronger then that?

Yes, I'm totally sexist because I mention 18 even though her, 17 and 18 are the Androids I have a problem with in-general and I didn't single her out now or in a previous comment. Sorry, but this is an absurd thing to say, especially since 18 is one of the characters who's questionable power logic is entirely ignored because she's seen as one of those characters "from the good ol days!".

Outside of places like Kanzenshuu where people tend to take a more layered, analytical approach to the series, I don't see 18 or 17 or 16 get much crap from anyone. It isn't until the Boo arc onwards that the more casual fans suddenly start to complain about problems with power increases, plot and character developments as though the Android arc didn't already have any of that stuff.

"Outside of places like Kanzenshuu where people tend to take a more layered, analytical approach to the series."
Oh, please. I've been a lurker there and the vast majority of posters over there can be some of the most childish, needlessly nitpicky and unimaginative crowd possible. I also remember you there as the vicious bullying asshole who'd derail threads and tried to browbeat anyone who DARED to have an opinion not exactly like your own.

And if you want to go into convenient powers ups or characters who's vast strength does make much sense if you think about it, then it goes farther back than the Android arc.

There is the Ultra Divine Water which is just given to Goku so he can go beat Piccolo.

There is fact that Goku and Piccolo despite seven years of constant training can barely beat Raditz yet in under a year of training with Kami, Krillin and company can easily beat Saibamen who where on-par with Raditz.

There is Freeza who's absurd light-years ahead of everyone else at the time power is never explained or justified beyond "he can transform" which his minion Zarbon also could do and yet didn't gain more than maybe an extra 5-10 thousand in power while he goes in the hundreds of millions and the utterly insane power-scaling that Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo etc undergo to catch up with him that is utter nonsense when you try to make sense of it.

Really I can go on and on and you know it. You just want to bring up the examples that support your biases and flaunt your so-called superiority is all.

The Ultra Divine Water is more problematic since the RRA arc has Goku go after a similar plot device to power up and beat Pai Pai but there it was played up as a more of prankster master deal instead of just "drink thing to gain x amount of power level points!". Then the Daimao arc just.... makes it a cheat code power up. In-general, the Daimao arc tends to take the clever stuff of the RRA one and make it significantly dumber.

But you are right in that there's contrivances in how people power up before the Android arc, I just single that one at as the place where the the bad stuff starts to heavily outweigh the good one's. Not just in terms of how and why people get stronger, that's where characters start doing stuff solely to advance the plot in contrived ways, the stories themselves range from fun but really mediocre to just outright bad,... even the art in the manga goes severely to crap by the time the Boo arc rolls around.

"I just single that one at as the place where the the bad stuff starts to heavily outweigh the good ones."
That is in the realm of the completely subjective and not objective fact no matter how you say otherwise. Mr. "People who like the Majin Buu arc best should be euthanize." (And yes, I remember reading you wrote that when it won second place in a best arc contest at Kanzenshuu.)

Eh, yeah? Everything I say is subjective, it's my opinion, I don't have to put "in my opinion!" on the end of everything to have people understand that.

I'd also retract that comment I made if I could, after re-reading the Boo arc recently, I'd agree with your assessment that it gets shat on far too much. The only part of that arc I'd say doesn't work on every possible level is the Super Boo portion, mostly because everyone's really boring and repetitive during that.

A lot of the other stuff actually holds up well enough, people actually seem to grow and change in natural ways unlike the Android arc having Vegeta give a toss about Trunks out of nowhere or how Gohan losses it over the death of a guy he doesn't know at all.
