Go-Bots will be the first story to feature classic toy and cartoon characters like Leader-1, Scooter, Turbo, and Cy-Kill’s Renegades in over three decades! -- Press release
Go-Bots will be the first story to feature classic toy and cartoon characters like Leader-1, Scooter, Turbo, and Cy-Kill’s Renegades in over three decades!
Unless, of course, you count the various Transformers media that have incorporated them. (Both as Cybertronians and as themselves.)
I was excited for this book until I saw it was Scioli, who, to put it mildly, I have never been impressed with. Not sure if I regret skipping it, based om these scans. This is at least a coherent story (unlike GI Joe vs Transformers or the Wonder Twins story he did), and not a bad one, but it cops from TF* and discards the only specifically Go-Bots element (their being cyborgs with humanoid brains in their robot bodies), which would kind of dull my excitement if it hadn't already flatlined (also, Scoli's art remains an eyesore).
* He's basically moved Megatron's Aligned/IDW origin over to Cy-Kill, save for making the oppressors humans.
Not having read the issue, I can't be sure of this, but we don't *know* that the Go-Bots aren't still secretly Cyborgs with humanoid brains in robot bodies, do we??
That seems like a reveal that could upend some moral certainties later in the series.
It doesn't seem compatible with the description of the history of the Go-Bots, or with how Tank was able to draw information from Leader-1 with a touch.
Sometimes they're the actual characters (the official fan-club stuff, like Gone Too Far, Games of Deception, and Beast War: Uprising). Sometimes just easter eggs.
Both. There were actually multiple toys made of Bug Bite based upon one of the stories, even. [Edit - actually, I think the first toy came before the story, but still...]
To be fair, though, Go-Bots are usually brought up in Transformers stories to either unfairly mock, humiliate and/or kill them (à la the aforementioned Cy-Kill or Armada Leader-1).
On that note, YAY GO-BOTS! On the other hand, the Go-Bots here don't seem to really be too similar to the ones in the originals, so... yay, Go-Bots?

Also, they should have made the gladiator Cy-Kill killed a Megatron. Turnabout is fair play, after all.
