Excalibur #26: The Fantasy Is Over

"Regrettaby, Excalibur leaves me with the distinct impression that Tini Howard has no real understanding of British identity, and no real interest in the topic either. Since her core theme seems to be some sort of battle against reactionaries, I suspect the idea that Britain is withdrawing from dealing with mutants and so forth is meant to be some sort of Brexit allegory, but what it amounts to in practice is the baffling idea that – without any explanation – meaningful political influence attaches to a weirdo who is openly a member of a mystical coven. Which… again, what? What does any of this have to do with the iconography of the British right? The iconography of the British anything? If Reuben Brousseau is meant to represent Boris Johnson or Nigel Farage or Jacob Rees-Mogg… I mean, that’s like claiming that Dr Druid symbolises Donald Trump. You can say it, but it’s bollocks. And if Reuben’s not meant to represent that then… why does he matter?" - Paul O'Brien

Jubilee is still running around with that poor toddler?
I know heroes being irresponsible parents and endangering their kids is a trope, but usually, they at least wait until they are teens to bring them in missions.

It’s okay, all the literal tears in the fabric of reality he causes with his breath get patched right up again by Jamie Braddock so they can keep using him as a weapon against their enemies! And don’t worry about Jubilee, solicits and covers imply she’s not going to be around for the next volume, just Shogo.

To be fair Shogo is helping them of his own free will. He's not being "Used as a weapon" he wants to protect his mom and his friends and his home

I agree that it's far too dangerous for Shogo to be there tho

He’s a baby! He can barely talk! How much free will is his own? How much if the situation does he comprehend beyond dragon cool?

I'm not disagreeing with you that they shouldn't be taking an infant into battle, dragon or not

Just pointing out that Shogo does want to help as much as he's capable of understanding what's happening here. I imagine what he comprehends is that his mom is in danger and he wants her to be safe

Oh Christ, they're going to get rid of Shogo and Jubilee being a mom by having him stay behind in Otherworld so he can stay a dragon 24/7, aren't they?

If your baby could turn into a dragon, you'd bring him on missions, too.

I’m saddened by the implication that you would,

...I mean, you just replied to a four month old comment, but also: you are saddened by the implication of that I would bring my dragon-baby on missions? I mean, there really isn't any *implication* there, I flat out wrote it.

But also: you do realize that dragon-babies don't exist, right? That this is all fiction? I'm not advocating people bring their ACTUAL babies into battle, because babies don't actually turn into dragons, because dragons don't exist. So saying that I'm somehow being a bad parent by stating I would bring my non-existent dragon-child into battle is a bit silly.
