Batman V Santa Claus: Dawn of Christmas

It's a four-issue miniseries, running every week through December with the third issue out today. Lamentably, I'm away from my FLCS over this holiday season, so here are only scans from the first two issues.

Still, it's written by Jeff Parker, and the art is pretty damn amazing. Not just a chreap Christmas cash-in, but one does wonder if they'll wait twelve months before publishing the TPB.

A little disappointed Mora is only doing covers but ...
Parker
Batman
Santa
Batfam
Justice League
Vampires
...yeah, this is going to be a LONG wait for the trade.

Santa taught Batman how to be able to pull anything he needed out of the utility belt.

I thought it was the disappearing trick he always pulls on Gordon.

Oh! Why not both?

That last page is just wonderful. Makes me think of the JUSTICE LEAGUE episode "Comfort and Joy," where Ma and Pa Kent are regaling a visiting-for-the-holidays J'onn with tales of how they had to wrap wee Clark's presents with lead-foil paper to keep him from peeking. Clark's eyes narrow, and he says, suspiciously, "You mean Santa had to wrap them."

This is close enough to Grant Morrison and Dan Mora's take on superhero Santa that it kinda feels like a crossover...

Not gonna lie, I thought this *was* a crossover with Grant Morrison’s Santa.

It feels like Jeff Parker has been quiet for a while.

Good to see him back.

I always wondered about the younger heroes of the DCU. They know heroes who can run around the world in seconds, or punch a hole through the moon, or magic welders...is Santa really that far fetched in comparison?

Maybe they're going by the logic that it's not that Santa is so far fetched, but just that in a universe like the DCU, surely if Santa was real they'd have seen him sooner?
(if that makes sense.)

There's an Impulse story like that. (In one of the DCU Holiday Bash annuals, I think)

Max starts bringing up the "impossible" things Santa does and Bart counters with superheroes who have those same powers because Martian Manhunter ALSO knows if you've been good or bad and the Atom has no problem with chimneys.

(Seems odd to try to convince a future Flash that a scarlet speedster is improbable)

Then Bart is taken to a vacant North Pole and comes to the perfectly reasonable assumption that Santa has been kidnapped.

Please tell me this isn't Elseworlds. There's something about this -- all of this -- I want to be main universe canon.
