WEB OF SPIDER-MAN had Tombstone exposed to some experimental chemicals that boosted his strength and endurance. Although Tombstone was still pretty tough before that.
I'm pretty sure Tombstone is stronger than Spidey.
That said, Spidey's always had greater speed, webbing, advance warning and generally the brains not to go blow for blow with a guy who's bullet proof.
That aside, can someone please explain why we're supposed to care, about Tombstone? He's always been kinda a douche, so this whole 'I'm trying to save you from yourself!' thing falls flat, IMO
Because he has a family. That's the go-to 'make someone care about the villain' schtick, and I find it falling as flat here as it does with The Hood, TBH.
I think the fact that Tombstone's after a third party Spidey needs to protect does add a dimension- he has to stay closely engaged with Tombstone, can't afford to space him out and make Lonnie chase him.
I really do have trouble seeing Tombstone vs Spider-Man as such an even match. I can only imagine that Pete's holding back to try to talk sense into Lonnie and keep him laser-focused on him, rather than just going for the straight knock-out.
Remember, Spider-Man can go toe-to-toe with a Herald of Galactus and won through endurance and physical power. (His famous fight with Firelord...) Tombstone's strong and tough but no Herald of Galactus.
And Lonnie's daughter is an amoral lawyer/supervillain in her own right, whose only redeeming trait is being involved with Randy Robertson.
But that's Spider-Man for you. He'll go to the mat for -anyone- in a pinch. In a fight between Red Skull and Doctor Doom, he'd probably defend the Skull if he thought it was unjustified. Or he'd defend Doom with even the slightest justification. He'd fight the Punisher to save the life of the Kingpin because "no one dies." He'd stand between Thanos and the Avengers and be like "Sorry Cap, the universe needs him."
At least with The Hood, he's trying to provide a better life for his family.
Here, Tombstone is c**kblocking his daughter from the career she wants and has tried to build for herself.
Honestly, the story would be 100% better if it were Janice villaining up, and whupping Tombstone's rear, instead of Spidey always being on his heels, whining "Think of the children!"
Is Spider-Man out of web fluid here? Surely that's move number one, not 'go and grab a pole' - that's valuable seconds saved, having a weapon literally at his fingertips rather than improvising one.
I think Spidey can tell that Lonnie doesn't want to kill his daughter, he just feels like he has to. Got to be tough. Kingpin claimed he'd kill his own son if he got in his way (which is a total lie). Tombstone wasn't going to fall behind.
Exactly, but not long ago, Lonnie was fighting Kingpin on even ground. Fisk should have been mangled going up against the likes of him. Then Janice was able to gouge his face like that last issue. That shouldn't be possible. It was like his powers were wearing off...but I guess not.
It wasn't endurance that let him beat Firelord. It was sheer speed...and maybe audacity. I don't think he foresaw just getting wailed on in a frenzy like that.
In the recent Ghost Rider mini where Hood became Ghost Rider for a bit and took over Chicago’s criminal underworld. Things didn’t go well for them but they managed to make it out alive.

Peter is tough, but he's not bullet proof. Tombstone and Firelord are.
