Guardians of the Galaxy #27

The previous issue was a retelling of the Guardians’ origin story, so I have skipped it.

The Guardians travel back to the 20th Century and get pulled in to the Infinity War.

The misunderstanding fight is cut short when a bunch of doppelgangers appear.

“You just shot the Gorgon doppelganger!”

“He was a doppelganger?!”

A Maximoff betraying the Inhumans, you say? Don't get too excited, because I don't think this is ever brought up again. Valentino is off the book after the Infinity War tie-ins any way.

Sadly this was one of Valentino's last issues as he was about to jump to Image so a lot of subplots left up in the air.

And the last issues aren't his art but Herb Trimbe who was doing a terrible job adapting to the '90s "style."

Wait... the Inhumans started the fight (again) because they were being jumpy and paranoid, but Vance is the one apologising?

"The legends of Black Bolt and his beautiful queen were true. Mostly they say you constantly started pointless fights because you're a bunch of paranoid, xenophobic jerks."
"... yes, that does sound like us."

Valentino's last issue.
Not exactly going out on the highest note, is it?

Black Bolt looks like he's thinking "What is this, hit on my wife day?" in that last panel.

I always liked the twist in that recap of their Origin you skipped that it revealed Starhawk had actually arranged for the four of them to meet and was there the whole time doing things like steering them in the directions they needed to go.

Then his darker self manipulated them into going back in time to kill the Badoon before they could ever become the threat.

Moving on you know this issue was IIRC the first time I ever read with the the inhumans and I must say it hits a lot different n hindsight. When I first saw this issue they seemed a whole lore more reasonable without all the other shit they've pulled being fresh in my head.

That was a fun touch, clear Valentino had so many ideas left to use. He shared how he had it all plotted to issue 50 before he left and so much good stuff ignored.

As I recall, they eventually reveal the guy ruling Attilan in the 30th century is Loki, so technically there's an non-Inhuman royal involved.

Of course! Loki! It was so obvious.
(My money would've been on Quicksilver.)
