Avengers West Coast #55

Acts of Vengeance.

Thor leads two Coasts worth of Avengers against the mastermind behind the whole villain swapping thing.

Thor discovered that Loki was the mastermind behind the Acts of Vengeance crossover in Thor #413.

This Red Skull is a robot. Magneto left the real one in an abandoned bunker in Captain America #367.

The Wizard was captured in Avengers #313, but escapes from his cell at the beginning of this issue.

Thor wouldst have words.

Hank Pym must have been taking notes because he soes exactly the same thing to Vibro in a couple of issues time.

So much for not even gods being able to break the grip of a troll. Cap broke free easy.

As fun as Acts of Vengeance's matchups are, Loki's monologue about it points up the artificiality of the whole thing - you can just write a story where one of hero A's villains fights hero B without this contrived a pretext about it.

(Sure, there'd be internal editorial clearances to secure and the complications therein - but talking about working around those is just giving yourself credit for solving a self-imposed problem.)
