Turns out teaching a teenager magic is not always a good idea.
Wolverine - the best there is at what he does, and what he does... is apparently tune out 90% of what he just listened to. (And the rest of the X-Men somehow didn't listen either, nor do they notice Hybrid despite him only shapeshifting once they got there. "Well, obviously that alien cyborg destroyed the farmhouse, but was utterly unable to kill that fifteen year old even though he just said he refuses to kill. He must be the culprit!" Not their finest moment.)
A(n apparent) robot trying to kill a(n apparent) mutant is kind of a trigger issue for them, for some reason. But, yeah, eye and ear exams for everyone at Xavier school.
