It's a minor thing, but I love that even with an Orange ring and the zombie apocalypse, Luthor's specifically targeting Superman and Superboy.

Yep, and now we find out the truth; "And that's terrible" refers not to the fact he is stealing 40 cakes (as many as four tens), but to the fact he can ONLY steal 40 cakes at a time.

Now he can steal as many cakes as he damn well pleases, and its no longer terrible.
