Yume and Ever

Well, Black History Month has slipped quietly into Women's History Month and I've gone from doing character spotlights to creator spotlights over at Ormes. The most recent creator spotlight? Alitha Martinez (who you may remember from her past work at Marvel)! She's on the creator-owned road now (though I hope Marvel convinces her to come back temporarily for its "Year of the Women") with her work Yume and Ever. Four scans from Yume and Ever beneath the cut!

Aww, they're a cute couple :)

I like that Ever's drawn really hot too.

I've never seen this before, and I gotta say I appreciate a man who can rock traditional Japanese garb without giving in to temptation to be a ninja.

Neat! Is there any way to get this besides finding her at a convention?

"Year of the Women"?

Does that mean they're putting Spider-Man on hiatus?

Oh, that Parker luck!

Portia Parker would rule so hard. The thought of J. Jane Jameson is a bit scary, though--I'm imagining something along the Bea Arthur/Granny Goodness axis.

There is supposedly a Spidey porn film out there in which Spidey is a woman and her name is ... Patricia Porker.

Bea Arthur JJJ would rock, though.

Well, there was that bait-and-switch where they killed Kazar in his own book for one month and changed the title to Shana the Savage and then...

Oh, never mind. Not important.

Wow! I feel tons better after reading the previous Red Skull and Cry for Justice scans. Thanks :)

Aw! This is cute! I must look further into it. (And this is from a person who usually goes "No superheroes? No zombies? No explosions? NEXT!" too! It must be good. :P)

Okay, that's some damn amazing art.

...but what is this series about, exactly?

[personal profile] nagaoka 2010-03-04 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Umm...."Mama-san"? Is she using that term for a reason here? It's not exactly....proper...or polite.

When I first read that it reminded me of my first visit to Japan with my Japanese aunt. Walking down Harajuku's main street a non-Japanese man (I assume, he was black) I guess was advertising the store he worked for (I....hope) started following my aunt, probably cause I was with her. "Hey Mama-san, come with me. Come on, mama-san. mama-san, please, mama-san. Don't break my heart, mama-san." and so on. It was rather freaky...

Very very nice art though. Gorgeous.

:)

BTW, is there a specific term for the practice of having two versions of the same character(s) tell a story at the same time? [is curious]

A variation of the Rashomon, perhaps?

[personal profile] cleome45 2010-03-05 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that would be its opposite. Kind of. <---Knows just enough about manga and anime to be dangerous.
