Because I can't get enough Jessica Jones

These are from the Pulse. Jess is pregnant throughout the 14-issue series and gives birth to Danielle at the end.

The series is a great concept: J. Jonah Jameson wants to gain more readers, and in order to do so launches a new weekly series written by Ben Ulrich. Jess is hired as a consultant/go-between. She takes the job because she and Luke need the health benefits/insurance money. Luke's not entirely pleased about having their superhero lives splashed in the pages of the Bugle. He says he's not famous and nobody knows him. Jess chides him by saying that everyone knows him and loves him. This becomes a running joke throughout the series with people on the street walking up to Luke and telling him what fans they are.

There are some great scenes in this, and the last issue is fantastic and tells the story of how Jess and Luke met.

Here are some of my favourite scenes. First up... Carol, Sue and Jess talk superhero mommy-ing.

From the Pulse #11

During the delivery... Dr. Strange offers to put on some soothing music, Jess declines the offer (lol so would I, girl, so would I...) Luke requests Public Enemy =D
From the Pulse #13:

And from the Pulse #14: How Luke and Jess met. This whole issue is Jess talking to Dani, who she actually hasn't even named yet. Luke has already proposed to her, and she was blown away by his proposal.

Jess had attempted to superhero one more time under the moniker Knightress. She was taking down a mob boss named Owl when Heroes for Hire - Luke and Danny - show up at the scene. She gets cut in the back by Owl. They end up taking down the mob boss, but he had actually brought his kids with him to the crime scene.

Jess puts the kids to bed, and Luke comes over with food. He dresses her wound and asks her why she did what she did. She tells him she just thought it was right. She says she didn't even really want to be a superhero, anyways.

And we see how Dani can make her mommy do anything =D

SO MUCH LOVE <3

The art here terrifies me at times and will haunt my waking moments but that is a lot of good writing.

I'll assume you mean Earth-3412 Sousa Richards, member of the Fantabulous Five, because if that's actually supposed to be SUSAN GODDAMNED RICHARDS I'll need to eat my hat.

Well, first I'll need to buy a hat, but after that it is ON.

well according to the poster it's Carol Jessica and Sue.
So you need to get a hat

You know, if they make edible underwear, one would think they would make edible hats as well. Maybe out of bacon...

Hmm. I'm going to need a lot of streaky bacon, some baking paper and a mixing bowl to mold it all round, and I guess I'd have to bake the bacon rather than grill or fry...yes...

You could probably weave bacon around a frame and bake it together like that.
/has watched way too much Epic Meal Time

I have no idea what Epic Meal Time is, but I think I need to see if it plays in the UK. It sounds like something I need in my life.

If YouTube isn't being a dick about it, it should play in the UK.

EMT is a group of Canadians who had a somewhat silly/unique idea (take fast food items and turn them into gargantuan portion meals, like layered-Burger lasagna) and made it so over-the-top, it becomes an amazing thing to behold.

I spend half the time being grossed out by drunken fools mauling at heaps of greasy food abominations, and half laughing hysterically at their behind the scenes jokes/trademark quips.

They became well known for using bacon extensively in their recipes; bacon-wrapping, bacon garnishing, bacon injecting. Beloved moments are the shots of trays of bacon being loaded up to cook ("BaconStrips&BaconStrips&BaconStrips...") and later flipped simultaneously.

It's a crazy internet show that must be seen to be believed.

WARNING: Comedic machismo and stereotypical male behavior abounds.

This artist is SO lazy

The story is good, but I could never buy it because of the crappy artwork. Couldn't they have gotten Bendis a better artist? Gawd.

It works for the stories most of the time in Alias, but yeah, the artist is kind of lazy in places.

SOoooooo many copy and pasted panels...

So how come Luke Cage has hair here but over in New Avengers at the time, I'm sure he was, as he is today, rocking the Power of Bald?

[personal profile] mrstatham 2011-11-23 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that much, but this was released around the same time as the first New Avengers issues, and I'm fairly sure he was bald in those issues. Yet here, even in the present day sequences, Luke seems to have hair.

[personal profile] mola_ram 2011-11-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You are correct.
Not only was it around the time that Luke got bald, but they even showed him as bald on every cover of The Pulse he was put on.

Is this series out in book form yet or is it ongoing?

Forget about the music. I would be really freaked out about all of the Avengers staring at me while I give birth! (and Tony Stark taking readings, God XD ).

It is indeed all out in trade, apart from issue #10, which was a House of M tie-in, and doesn't appear to have been collected anywhere.
korilian: (Wanna play?)

[personal profile] korilian 2011-11-23 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretending House of M doesn't exist, so that's not a great loss ;).
I think I'm gonna try tracking this one down if at all possible.

The Pulse was disappointing at the time, from what I remember. Overall, it really felt like Marvel didn't want to continue publishing Alias, but threw their top writer at the time a bone by giving him this series to continue his character in, at the caveat of it not being on MAX and have it be more action-superheroey instead of a gritty noir comic (I mean, hell, it had two event crossovers in a 14 issue series).

I bought every issue anyway, though, because I was really digging on Jessica, and it was worth following the series just to see how Luke and her turned out.

But yeah, other than the D-Man story, it was a severe downgrade from Alias.

Hey I've been curious, during fear itself, what did Jess do? Can we get stoner posts about jess in action?
