The Rise of Mecha Sally, the Fall of Sonic

Coming off of Generator_rex's awesome Robotnik post, I decide to do a follow-up on one of the big questions people had about it: What happened to Sally?





At the end of the Genesis story arc, it's been revealed Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik has been busy, and for quite some time. See, awhile back some aliens managed to put a planetary ban on roboticizing, making the process not work. Eggman has not only figured out how to get around the ban, but plans to implement his proof-of-concept of that workaround on a planetary scale from his new flying battlestation, the Death Egg, turning everyone into roboticized slaves.

Well, almost everyone. As he notes, roboticization won't work on things that are already robots, with destructive results, so such thorns in his side as the rogue battle-robot Omega, Nicole the electronic protector of New Mobotropolis, the cyborg Freedom Fighter Bunny Rabbot, and for that matter Sonic's still-roboticized father, will simply... explode. Not to mention some of his own cyborg minions, but hey, you can't make an omelet without killing some of your now-obsolete minions, right?

Sally and Sonic are... not too pleased. He fights off some battle robots to buy Sally time to try and do something about it.



(Btw, Nicole, the AI helping her via remote uplink? A character who started out as a glorified tricorder and ended up a beleaguered city-state AI with a humanoid body of her own, I'd do a post on her and her tremendous amounts of character development but I'd scarcely know where to begin!)



The needs of the many...


With the beam backfired, many things on the Death Egg explode, including the bots Sonic was tangling with. It's not sunk yet, but Sonic figures he's pretty much won, facing a now-weaponless Eggman who doesn't have any bots.

Then one crashed through the wall and grabbed him by the neck.



Is it just me, or does Mecha Sally's design look really badass?

In that last panel Eggman is SO channeling Gin ichimaru.

These are the moments that make all the fighting and rivalry worth it. Roboticizing one of your greatest enemies then have her drop her boyfriend from a kilometer up!

Considering that the last time I saw Eggman in these posts, he had been beaten so many times by Sonic it had broken his brain, I gotta say Eggman must really be enjoying this little turnaround.

Now he's back on top, with all his lieutenants save one sufficiently cowed, and a Metal versions of the Freedom Fighters Big free, and his arch enemies girlfriend as his personal bodyguard.

Btw, while he was out of action? He had these plans in motion. He basically set this all up before he lost, and managed to lose in a way that wouldn't reveal it all.

There's tons of hints he was up to something, everyone just assumed taking him down stopped it, then in these last few issues he pulls all the cards he had stacked the deck with.

So he basically pulled a Light Yagami.

Kudos eggman.

You coulda put in the part in which Sally DIED before Buttnik hit the button, to show how devastated Sonic was BEFORE Sally turn his little gift back at him....

A cool moment, but it doesn't have much to do with the roboticization. At this point neither Sonic nor Sally remember it.


Now, if someone were to do a post on Genesis itself, I wouldn't want to steal one of the cool moments ^^

But still, it the emotional build up to it that made Mecha Sally's appearance more emotionally devastating...

Hm, I didn't really see it that way... after all, they were 6 months apart.

I can hear every line of Eggman's dialogue in his voice, which is a good thing.

Which voice? Dude's had like half a dozen VA's over the years.

The one from Sonic X onward, and the one from Adventure-Heroes. I don't know about the cartoons, never watched them.

... Holy crap, I REALLY need start reading this series again. But jesus christ do I have a lot to catch up on. D:

I think Eggman has really gotten better since his breakdown in 200. Since he regained his senses he has been a much cooler villain. The fact that he let Sonic go suffer rather than go for a garunteed kill. He wants to savor his victory, and it is a victory. Mecha-Sally stands to be his best weapon because Sonic will always hold back against her. I'd also like to see Monkey Khan's rection to this, well really I'd just like to see more Monkey Khan.

He's definitely been awesome since his return, but in the 'Eggman wins' storyline where he also was really badass, so it's a tough call :)
