You know, I've never found the Archie cast attractive

But I'm prepared to make an exception here...

Phil Jimenez has his way with the Archie crew... well, his own art style at any rate

Comicvine has a couple of variant covers up

(Click to drastically embiggen)

And Phil posted this on his Facebook.

And for those who prefer Jill Thompson's take on things.

I am kind of with you on Phil Jiminez.....he is definitely technically a good artist, but there is something about his style that fails to really grab me more often than not.

Having said that, I LOVED his run on the Legion Academy series in Adventure Comics, and I do find his Jughead and Dillon above to be a bit of orright....I don't know how I feel about finding Jughead attractive though, lol

Oh my God no, I can't take Jughead being model-hot.

Also, is Mr Weatherby the guy in the green suit, the top right?

Not sure who the green suit guy is...Mr. Weatherbee is the small figure right above Veronica's head.

I'm pretty sure that's Patton Howitzer, who I thought was the vice principal, but wikipedia says that he was just a teacher. He used to be a drill sergeant before teaching at the school. This thing has a lot of fairly obscure characters.

It really does. I remember Patton Howitzer now that you mention the name, rising from the depths of my subconscious along with a ton of other Archie characters...

But not yet going in the "Remus Lupin" direction, where you mostly make the reader wonder what the parents were thinking (and spoil your plot twist). Although granted, that's only because Harry Potter is less cartoony than Archie, by nature.

Oh, wait, NVM. I think that's actually supposed to be Kevin Keller's dad. It looks more like him and he's situated right above Kevin.

Is it just me who thinks it's odd for Kevin to be featured so prominently rather than Reggie? It seems odd for him not to have pride of place along with Jughead and Moose as the longstanding second tier characters.

Seemed weird to me too. He generally played a bigger part than Moose, even.

If I recall correctly, that is Sabrina's Uncle Ambrose.

haha IKR.....my friends tell me things and I'm like "I don't remember that, I am busy thinking about how Kitty Pryde was technically the 4th X-woman ever"....

It's like the last time they tried to draw Archie differently. It looks off.

I have this thing with Phil Jiminez where the more characters he draws, the more I like his art. One or two, meh. No big thing. Vast multitudes? AMAZING.

I'm having trouble with the two blond dudes on the right, though. I assume one of them is Big Moose, but who would the other one be? Alan M? Betty's rarely seen older brother Chick? Both of the blond dudes are pretty prominently featured, but I can't think of many important blond Archie guys.

Kevin Keller, maybe?

[identity profile] djt2445.livejournal.com 2013-02-24 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Given that I think Midge's to the left of the blonde closest to the bottom, I'm guessing that's Big Moose.

And I think the other is Kevin Keller, because I think that's his spouse below him.

It's kind of fun playing guess the characters, but I'm disappointed there's no Mr. Lodge on this. I mean, I'm pretty sure that's Katy Keene in the top left corner, so they definitely could have found room for a prominent character like him.

I think that's Mr. and Mrs. Lodge behind Veronica, very small characters.

What I'm concerned about is that MY Betty wears a bra.

I'm not sure what's wrong with Cheryl's eyes, but Jughead's smirk has become vaguely menacing now and HOLY CRAP Dilton is about to finally go full-on mad scientist. That smile says he had bided his time, and now the day has come.

Jughead's expression should be more diffident. And, if you're going to draw a more realistic version of Jughead, you should draw a more realistic version of Jughead's hat, which isn't some sort of grey crown with simple geometric figures, but something like the hat that Goober wore on The Andy Griffith Show with buttons or bottlecaps sewn on it.

I'd always thought Jughead wore a crown (or crown-ish hat, *handwave*), but apparently (now?) it doesn't go all the way around his head; someone's holding on to one side and his hair's visible on the other...

That's not a crown; it's a tiara.

Why is Aquaman in there? Is that supposed to be Moose? Oh, the blond lower down is probably Moose, Aquaman is probably Kevin.

Jughead and Dillon look like variations on Clark Kent or Dick Grayson here--more than normal.

So basically Big Moose is Aquaman.

That explains why nobody's seen them together!
