Wonder Woman: The True Amazon

The True Amazon is... an interesting book.

The art is gorgeous, and very unique: it looks like watercolour paintings. Definitely not something you commonly see in comic books.
The story is a complete AU of Wonder Woman. Uniquely, it's one that doesn't involve Steve Trevor at all.
Personally, I'm very fond of both Steve and the Diana/Steve pairing. But what's the point of AUs if you don't explore alternate possibilities? So I was all for this new story where Diana is driven by her love for a woman.
Unfortunately, my appreciation for it was sorely dampened by the Bury Your Gays trope. So yeah, Diana gets a lesbian romance, but it does not end well. Normally I'd avoid spoiling a major plot point like this, but I figure BYG is one trope you don't want to pull the rug under your feet, especially if you seek out a book specifically for the gay content.
Still. Gorgeous art and a very unique take on the character. I'd say the book is worth reading for the way it does something new and different.
Diana's characterization is also unlike anything I've ever seen before. Here, as a result of the fact that she is the only child the Amazons have seen in millennia, they all spoil her rotten. They basically raise her like Kuzko. So she starts out as a horrible brat, and grows into a better person.

When I found out that the Beasts of Burden had another story added to this latest collection from Dark Horse comics, I had to get it. Ok, not true, I wanted the follow up to what happened to Hellboy once members of the B.P.R.D. found out he had died, but out of all the stories this one got me good.
Beautiful art, wonderful storytelling, real characters that I care about, and honest-to-Roth emotion that changes from page to page. Love, friendship, joy... and horror.
Grab the hankies, and keep your loved pets close to you after this one. Just don't squeeze them too tight.

ComicBookResources also has the news that a certain scans_daily favorite will get their own CG movie.

I meant to post these pages back in December, then completely forgot about it.

Scary Godmother!

First post! Long time lurker from the LJ-days, first time poster on Dreamwidth. If I'm doing anything wrong here, please let me know and I'll fix it asap. It's still Halloween, and I can't think of a better time to post some Scary Godmother!
First, I have to apologize for the quality of the scans. I'm scanning the pages directly from my book, and the book is as flat as I can possibly get it on the scanner bed without completely messing up the spine. The blurry edges cover up some dialogue, but it's still mostly readable, I think. If anything needs clarified, I can go back and edit. I had to make the scans a bit bigger than usual, since the text is so tiny.
Anyway... 11 and a half pages from the 40-page Scary Godmother: My Bloody Valentine special, definitely not safe for dial-up!
( Pages may contain groan-inducing puns, campy skeletons and more sugar than your entire bag of Halloween candy! )

As usual, the creators at DarkHorse for this project deliver a sharp tight story with good art, great characterization with real emotion, drama, risk and danger and a good pay off. And the addition of Hellboy and his universe to it just spices it up more for Halloween.
Just good old fashioned fun.
Spoilers behind the cut.

So, the fourth anthology story.
It's been mentioned in the threads of other posts, but I don't think it's ever been posted, and this must be rectified! Eight pages of a twenty-four page story behind the cut.
