Mighty Avengers #13

So Blade's been kidnapped by the Deathwalkers, who are just about to complete their plan to take over the Earth. Who can stop them!? I'm gonna say... Dr. Strange.

The old Mighty Avengers meet the current Mighty Avengers, and the former have informed the latter about the Deathwalkers. Only problem is, they have no idea where they are. They try to get Power Man to find Blade, like he found White Tiger in issue 3. But the signal is too weak.

They try fighting, but there are too many were-creatures around slowing them down, so the Deathwalkers manage to finish their spell.

I was thinking Unavaatu, the Dark Avatar.

Or Doctor Midas, or Crystal, or any high-level FF mage...lots of options really.

Shit, I control the four elements in my kitchen. It has a fan and everything.

Technically, if you have a barbecue by your garden pool with the AC on, you're controlling the four elements...

"Shhh. I know, baby. Man's a supercilious ass."

Okay, I laughed.

Huh. I don't know if it's just the angle, or what, but She Hulk's size is apparent here in ways that it isn't always. (I mean, she's usually drawn as larger than everyone else, but I don't normally stop and say, "Man, she's *big*" the way I did here).

That was a really sweet moment with Blade apologizing to Jacqueline's memory. I'm glad those two are still together.

I love how they win this one, by the way.

This is solidly the best Avengers title right now, IMHO.

Considering earlier in the series Dr. Strange was mind-controlled into summoning Shuma-Gorath (pretty much Marvel's ultimate evil) to earth, Kaluu might have nixed the idea of calling him in on the job.

I really have found Jessica Jones minimal role in this series kind of baffling. She's only be characterized as Luke Cage's wife who beyond that rarely does anything beyond occassionally throwing a punch in a crowd scene. I think Al Ewing is one of the best writer's Marvel pushed lately though, so I really think he could write the character much better than he has.

It's enough to make me wonder if there's some sort of hands off policy in effect on the character. Like maybe no one is supposed to mess with her because she's one of Bendis' babies or something.

EVEN Bendis didn't used her that much in his last arc. It frustrates the HELL out of me! She is like one of my FAVORITE characters in marvel. ... HELL she's getting her own show!

I think it's entirely possible that Bendis didn't actually want her to be a part of the 616 universe proper, and would have preferred more of Punisher MAX situation. I mean, her series was markedly more mature than most Marvel books, and since it ended Jessica Jones has been primarily defined by her relationship with Luke Cage, so it does seem like there's been some hesitance there to have her really integrated into the mainstream universe.

With the Netflix series coming out though we could be poised to see more out of her in the comics as well, since Marvel's been good about cross media stuff the last couple years. I don't think I'd want Bendis writing her again, both because I personally don't care for his style, and because it seems likr he could have done stuff with the character but didn't. If she's going to get a fresh start a new writer would probably be best.

Bendis was the one that created her though.

Still, I'd love for Ewing to do a story all about Jessica.

By that do you mean Bendis is entitled to first crack at the character? I do appreciate his claim, but I also think he's said his piece with the character and doesn't seem overly interested in telling more stories with her.

If Marvel wanted to give Jessica Jones a series again in light of the Netflix stuff, which they'd be crazy not to, Bendis wouldn't be the ideal writer, simply because it seems like he considers her story finished.

Your cynicism is understandable, but unwarranted. She was part of the final battle and even merged with the others to become Avenger Prime.
