Axis: Carnage #1

Carnage is one of the many heroes and villains who's found his nature inverted due to the events of Axis.

Warning: Gore.

Later, there's a new Sin-eater in town...

You know, while stuff like this isn't usually my thing... this is hilarious and I must see more.

It is weirdly engaging.

Pretty much like Superior Spider-Man

The "originating writer" may not have thought through the implications of what they were doing, but someone else sure did!

I was going to say, by the time they did Minimum Carnage as a crossover a couple years back, I thought they'd burnt the character out again after some pretty strong stuff in his two minis, but.. This looks fun enough.

In "Maximum Carnage" Carnage's actions were more "Well, the universe makes no sense, the world is cruel and harsh, I might as well murder people for my own amusement." He wasn't exactly "I'm aware I don't feel emotions like a regular person and can only be happy when I murder people."

Yea. Before, it's just how he was. Now he's all... conflicted!

He wasn't exactly "I'm aware I don't feel emotions like a regular person and can only be happy when I murder people."

Hasn't that always been Carnage's mindset? That he knows he's a sadistic killer, he knows other people aren't, he just doesn't care and does whatever amuses him?

Out of curiosity, who's wearing the symbiote here? I haven't been keeping up on Carnage, so last I knew, Cletus Kassidy was ripped in half by The Sentry.

Yea, apparently the symbiont managed to keep the torso preserved/alive-ish, it was retrieved, and later restored.

This. Doesn't he have the prosthetic legs now, as per the Carnage mini?

I kind of remember him with no legs, having a kicking match with Flash after both of their symbiotes deserted them for a moment. So he might have lost those along the way.

The symbiote later fully healed and restorted his legs in Minimum Carnage. Though really it was just an artist's error and Yost or the other writer just went with, "SYMBIOTE HEALED IT!"

[personal profile] md84 2014-11-19 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the same moron who retrieved Carnage and used bits of it to make powered armor suits also saw fit to save Cletus and give him cybernetics to replace his lower body. Spidey was understandably annoyed.

It is really hard to understand why anyone would mess around with Carnage, and *especially* Cletus specifically!

Even if you want symbionts, there are others!

As much as I dislike needless gore and heroes that kill and all,
I have to admit that this is pretty fun and a fresh twist for a character that was essentially anarchy personified and nothing more.

Agreed. I even felt just a smidge of sympathy for him-- he's honestly TRYING to do right, but is getting it all so very, VERY wrong.

I hope this version sticks around a while, even past all the Axis stuff. It's the most interested I've ever been in Carnage.

I'm sure there will be those who'll escape the inversion spell because they won't be around a second time for it to be cast.

Casting it around the world will lift the spell from the currently affected heroes but affect everyone else. I hope that when it's cast we'll see more heroes or villains who aren't affected now. This is fun.

I was surprised by how interesting this is. Much much better than the actual event.

No, the Sin-Eater, although I was confused and excited to see Ghost Rider for a moment.
